Thanks for the quick responses! I've been used to playing large games in Distant Worlds, and GalCiv3 (currently) doesn't make it easy to determine how many players one should have based on map size, whereas DW offers lots of flexibility in this area (both in terms of logistics and scaling travel time/research/etc). I'm going to restart my game and max out player count!

After playing a bit on a Huge map with 4 AI players and minor races enabled, I've only run into one AI player and a few minor races. So I wanted to know if there was a list of recommended number of players per map size since the game currently doesn't auto-adjust the player count regardless of the selected map. I couldn't find anything online about this so I figured I'd post here. [e digicons]^_^[/e]
I seriously don’t understand why I am the way I am. It is simply infuriating that my entire being can be broken down so easily by the indecision that comes with dealing with girls that I am not only attracted to, but ones that I’d like to become more than just friends with. Wh
I must admit, I've killed quite a few people in my life. Hell, I've killed hundreds of thousands of people. Not just young people -- I've gunned down old people, too. Animals and other creatures, wild and domesticated, all were in the scope, too, cuz I believe in equal opportunity. Oh, did I mention I've done all this in my video games? Yup, like most gamers who are diehard FPS and 3PS (3rd-p
I'm very surprised that I found comments here! Goodness me... @elias: Quite the contrary, I love Stardock's position on game distribution and piracy, and the Galactic Civilization series as a whole, which is why I purchased every expansion released for it. It's true that I haven't had much time to dedicate towards the game (my last major romp with GalCiv was with the first release, where I played through two Huge-mapped campaigns), but I still want to support Stardock. I re
I find it convenient that the one blog I make in several years ends up being one hosted by a company who's game I don't play much, but a game that I purchased every single expansion for. How much money you want to bet on this blog not getting past one entry? Let's begin!
An update: I near-maxxed out my research, using the funds to aim for the second-largest hull size in the game. Once I got that, I focused to get Phasor technology, then to max out PD Combo. After that, I constructed the battleships that ultimately stood up to the Pirate fleets (with my fleets of 3). These three battleships (they have 18 laser, 16 PD Combo) wiped out every pirate in my space... and since I had a little bloodlust, I conquered the remaining minor races that were also in my spac
Well... I followed some of you guy's advice and built a transport ship that could move 6 parsecs/turn and has one survey module for the beefed sensor range. I declared war on the Drengin and easily conquered their home planet in one shot. However, after that win, the Antarians and Torians both declared war on me for "proving too big of a threat!" So, to level the playing field I gave both the Yor and Arceans a single tech to declare war on the An
I must say that this event really changed the history of my game... I mean it's like having cybernetic soldiers and tanks made of silksteel (or something equally strong) teleport into Europe before WWI begins and attack everything everything in sight, completely wiping out all European (and eventually Asian and American) armies and navies. The xenophobia event was OK in my book, but this Pirate megaevent almost made me want to restart my game, particularly when I realized that there was
spdtristam: I do have Warp Drives, and I haven't actually thought about luring them away from my space. I will give that a shot today! I figure a small-hull with two warp drives on it should do the trick. I also think that giving this special ship sensors so it can see Pirates from a long way off will pay off too. Thanks!
Hi everyone! I have quite a situation on my hands that I cannot seem to find a solution to so I'm posting here, hoping that some of you could help me out. I've been playing a nice Intelligent-level game as the Terrans for some time now with 5 other civilizations on the large map. Last night, as I was building up my fleets in preparation for war with the Drengin Empire who have also been building a sizable fleet (possibly in preparation for a war with me as well). The entire galaxy wa
I got an event that wiped out EVERYONE'S influence points a little past mid-game such that all the civilizations' borders went back to their planetary defaults (it was labeled as a "wave of xenophobia"). Needless to say, several asteroid fields swapped hands and now an Influence Victory (fortunately I wasn't aiming for that goal this time around) is pretty much impossible.
I personally would've liked it if the tech descriptions were as detailed as they were in SMAC... but GalCiv has always been like this when it came to tech descriptions, so I'll live w/ what's given.
