My last game was on "Bright" AI (Oblivion and school have kept me away until 1.1 is released) and the AI's seem to have no problem diversifying their weapons research. My big war ended up against the Terrans, who had been beating on two of the evil races the whole game. As I was finishing off the Yor, it was obvious that my next war was going to be with the Humans (their relations with me started to drop, their military spending was way up.

1) "mines" are built on pre-existing resource items (the colored glowy things) and provide a hefty bonus to your entire civ. "Starbases" can be built almost anywhere, and generate bonuses depending on their type. Yes, the overlap of two starbases effecfts stack 2)move your ships to a common square. Now see the little pictures at the bottom, select the ones you want in the fleet, then hit the "create fleet" button. Barring an odd glitch in yo

Maybe, but at least its not the US government building those McD's and Starbucks. I'm pretty sure we would object here i europe if the US government started building off-shore platforms broadcasting propaganda and telling us we should revolt and become americans Ever hear of "Radio Free Europe"? That is exactly what it is. <br/

They aren't destroyed if you didnt need them. If you say brought 3000 legions on 3 ships and lost less than 1000, two of the ships would remain. Maybe your civilization never researched a technology that lets them land their ships? Anyway, i dont think that every member of the population fights, remember that there are a lot of approximations and simplifications made for the sake of keeping the game streamlined. I prefer to think

I look at it this way, it makes the game (and getting a conquest) victory a little bit harder since you can't expect the civ you are beating the tar out of to just fight you to the last man or roll over an surrender. One thing that i think would be a good idea though, is a option to refuse the addition of a crumbling empire. "Um hey there emperor, we are getting our space butts kicked, the economy is in shambles, we have no military and th

I agree, some more options on the diplomacy screen would be nice, not needed mind you, but nice I wish you had more espionage options than just spying too. I think it was MOO2 that you could recruit spys, and then either assign them missions in the enemy states (steal tech, sabotage, et cetera), or use them for counter espionage to block the action of enemy agents in your turf. There was even a chance that they would get caught and then the

hexes work great until you want to move sideways If you want distance to be more accurate do this: double movement points it costs 2 points to move orthogonally and 3 points to move diagonaly this formula will get you far closer to the actual distance (diagonal distance is equal to about 1.41 times a side, 2 and 3 would be pretty close)

The "works" idea sort of works for explaining it; it may not make sense in the normal context of 4x games as to why a tiny population can work as hard as a huge one but think about it: You have a population, and they have jobs. many of them work at Space Border's or Space McDonald's, or maybe even Space Gamespot, what ever. Some of the population works for the government, either as direct employees or contractors. Now remember, the cash in this game isn't exactly a pile of

Actually, the one morale to farm ratio is a little off because with two farms you will need to about 3 to offset the morale hit. # of farms min # entertainment .......0----------------------->1 .......1----------------------->2 .......2----------------------->3 .......3----------------------->5 .......4----------------------->6 Why so many? becuase the morale penalty you get per billion people increases as population goes up (its exponen

Well here is one problem.... why are you building a star port on mars? it isn't like you are ever going to be able to build a ship of any power there. My advice, ignore mars for now and grab the other worlds, even with that slow starting colony ship, it will be ages before any other civ tries to take it from you and honestly Mars or what ever your class 4 home system world, isn't ever going to be that important. Normal is not that hard once

First: DONT BUILD FARMS Population above 5 billion quickly murders your approval rating, which murders your production, which murders your tax revenue. When starting out with the game, never build farms. You can more than sustain massive war going star empires without a single farm. Can farms help? Yes, but untll you get the flow of the game down, leave them alone. Next: Always start with "Stellar Cartography" if you are using a custom race. You need to know where the plane

on the other hand, an event like that can make a game pretty unique, and since everyone gets it isn't all that bad for you. Now suppose you had payed all the dues to get to star federation, none of the AIs had even bothered to learn what a "vote" is let alone more advance governments beyond "my rock bigger, Oog now leader". it's mid to late game, you are now an economic powerhouse because the government type gives you a massive edge when all

If the trade route passes through the base's Zone of influence, and it is a trade route going to one of your planets somewhere, yes you get the bonus. If neither end of the trade routes goes to one of your worlds, then you don't get squat. in other words, the base improves any of your trade routes that pass near the base.

I never build farms May tax rate is around 80% My approval rating stays around 86%, and this is without having to build the wonders like frictionless clothing or any other extream measures. Throw some Econ boosters and who the hell needs massive pops?

Easiest way without all that sticky programming: During a game, build a ship without any tech based components. In other words just build a frame with a hull and "extras" parts. Save it with a name like "Interceptor template" or what ever. Whenever you start a new game, it should be in your build list from day one, just upgrade it to add the parts and or other things that you want to do to it. As new hull types become available, construct yo
