I agree with the designed weakness of starbases - too often I see bases tank dozens of beginning/midgame fleets without much damage. My last full game I tanked the entire Terran navy with one fully fortified mining base - it killed literally hundreds of ships over a 10-15 turn period, and was barely damaged at the end. Of course, that was using the Thalan defensive tech, so it was stronger than the norm, but this is exactly what you guys are arguing for
Considering the

I've downloaded a few games that are either unavailable for sale, or are out of production and so only available by ebayers and the like charging multiples of the original value. With the current rise of obnoxious DRM, it's quite possible I'll start downloading new titles as well (which I will also buy, just not use the box copy). Bit reluctant to do this, though, because it'll be contributing to the "piracy" figures companies use to justify their draconian licenses.

Well said, but your point neglected the fact that you have been repaid on the terms you yourself have set. Yeah, but very busy for a while yet so don't spend the time. I assume you'll remember how you did it, so when I eventually get around to it, I'll see if I can recreate your fix. Might ask for some hints then.

"-5 new text quests of varying difficulties" Pretty sure there's should have been a *lot* more than that. Translation job only half done? "-New unique ships for the true high-end player, available at certain stations" Which are not actually available because they cause automatic crash to desktop. "-New items and improvements for your ships" Which don't appear to exist. Anybody managed to find the 2 new engines/grippers/droids etc that are supposed t

Greatly appreciated, netriak. I'm a bit surprised (given my layman's knowledge) that you're able to get that much detail without the source code. I'd be interested to know how...can you point me in the right direction to start learning (or are we talking years of knowledge to even get started here?) Of course, it shouldn't be up to you...

Yet another bug then by the sounds of it. So in summary: We're missing text quests that never got translated (despite waiting a very long time for the translation to be done!) The game as released has a crash to desktop error in one of the bigger new features which has only been corrected at all thanks to the efforts of a player. Even then the feature does not actually work properly. The unique ships don't have the properties they are supposed to. Th

It was bugged in the original? I managed to do it once without any trouble (must have got lucky), but never touched it since because of the big rep loss it gives. You're not missing much, believe me!

Another top new feature is the Tranclucator, the not always so little robot you can get from blackholes and exploring planets. These were in the original version as well, but now are *much* more useful. It can now be ordered to collect items within a system (which I *think* is new) which is *fantastic* for saving you time and a tedious clearing up job after a dominator fight. Just set it going hoovering up all the nodes and items and go about your business. Come back later when it's done for

Possibly my favourite new "feature" is one I haven't seen mentioned on the official lists - the dom's are much tougher! I'd say roughly 1 level's difference, perhaps even a little more (so, for example, on normal you can now expect the coalition to consistently hold 35-40% without your help rather than 50% in the old version.) On the hardboiled game I started, the coalition were down to 10% within 3 months! I really appreciate this since, having played the game to death, I was getting a bit t

It's really better described as a (substantial!) patch than an expansion. There's very little new content overall, but the changes do make it (even) more enjoyable to play. If you still really enjoy and play the original a lot, then you'll probably get a great deal out of the expansion. If you're fed up with the original and hoping reboot will give the game a new lease of life, then you'd probably be better off saving your money.

"basically a 2 Launcher-2 PLasma Robot about 3-5 of those with about 3 healers (Robots with all 4 slots as repairers), can hold a good line, but its more for wide open space" Actually, they'll hold a good line in a constricted area to as long as you position them carefully then instruct them not to move. To do this, move them into place, then issue the "stop" command. This will force them to remain in place rather than rushing out to meet oncoming attackers. A line of 2 or 3 of these

With mid-late game weapons and 1000s of hit points, it should be possible to make them able to single-handedly repel any dominator attack. This means if you can get the holy grail of systems somewhere in your game (science base, ranger center and one other, preferably military base), it can be kept alive. Having a one stop shop for all your dom-fighting related needs like this is *ultra* convenient!
i uninstalled both games.i redownloaded sr2 and then reboot. i verified the install of sr2- said it was installed correctly. then i downloaded reboot and verified it and again it said it was installed correctly. i launched reboot and it said- this ap failed to start because d3dx9_31.dll was not found.
I had this problem, too. It's not actually an issue with Impulse, but with your computer - you have some DirectX9 files missing. Try this: http://msdn.microsoft.c
