I had this happen to me on the scenario called "Derelict." Early in the game, like the second or third jump I could make, I came to this asteroid field with a mineral extractor in it. Any ships (mine or the computers) that went into that sector got stuck spinning in the middle of the field and couldn't move. They were just stacked on top of each other. At first I thought I had to use some special ship or research some new technology to get through it, but eventually decided it was a design g
