Gimme a Kostura and a phase stabilizer and I can send an attack fleet anywhere I damned well please, bypassing most of my opponent's defenses. Given that I'm then able to send such an attack every 5 minutes or so (and building a decent attack fleet can take longer) I can basically launch an attack anywhere I want as fast as I can put them together. With multiple Kosturas, I gain complete freedom of movement across my opponent's territory, especially if I have Marauders in the fleet... I

You don't seem to understand the technical requirements of finding an optimal orientation to balance offense and defense. To do that accurately means taking every ship in weapons range and testing a wide variety of possible orientations/positions for ideal damage input and output. That is NOT a trivial search, even once optimization has been done. To repeat that for every ship on any kind of consistent basis would be a huge task for the CPU, since it would be an O(n^2) time sea
Does nobody have a solution? Did I post this in the wrong forum or something?
Well, THAT was overly optimistic! I was playing Entrenchment until 11:30 last night, but now when I try to start it up today the same symptoms appear. I'm not going to be reinstalling the thing every time I play a game! Anyone have an idea what the hell is going on here?
I uninstalled SoaSE and Entrenchment, deleted Documents and Settings\(my username)\Local Settings\Application Data\Ironclad Games, and then reinstalled SoaSE and Entrenchment. Everything appears to work normally now.
The type of functionality you're talking about has never been done, but someone DID do a "dynamic battles" mod that looks really sweet. Basically, the fighter AI was applied to most frigates and cruisers, causing a big, chaotic battle with everything moving all the time. Do a search for "Dynamic battle" on the boards, and it should show up. My guess as to why this is a difficult thing to implement is that it would also heavily complicate the combat. Sins is a strategy focused
Does anyone know what causes this problem, and how it can be resolved?
When I attempt to start up SoaSE: Entrenchment the window pops up, presents a black screen, and immediately gives a minidump message. Several second later, the program crashes and the "do you want to send a report to microsoft" dialog appears. Entrenchment worked without a hitch before, but has not behaved properly since I installed the 1.03 patch. Regular SoaSE exhibits the same behaviour (also fully patched, and previously worked). I uninstalled both and then reinstalled both via im
The upgrades that make the host planet invulnerable to being captured that at least the TEC faction has is certainly a significant boost, forcing the enemy to engage the starbase in order to do much of anything with the planet. Enemy bombers can be effectively countered by anti-fighter ships or structures... putting a bunch of TEC hangers around a starbase gives it flak cover AND additional fighters. Couple a defense upgraded starbase with other tactical structures like
Eh, his obnoxious post has been deleted, so all is well.
Thank you, Gongytron, for reminding me of the boundless persistence of human stupidity. In my optimism, I was starting to have hope for the human race. Thanks for clearing that up for me! Idiots aside: Ironclad, fantastic game. I bought it based off all the recommendations I've been hearing (and the knowledge that Stardock was involved) and I haven't been disappointed. This is a very different kind of online experience, I've never seen a game this slow that works this well.
