Alright, let me see if my mind can take re-living the horrors I've seen. 1. C&C: Tiberium Sun. The first one was so good, and Red alert 1 was amazing, so how could they go on to release this boring pile of crap? 2. Spore - So much promise, so much let down. At least the creature editor was fun. 3. Auto Assualt - Not quite a bad game (hey ,I had some fun with it) , but they left out so many essential things at the start (like an auction house) that th

I have to agree with 44RS. The Liir are awesome, and i personally wish i had the time/knowledge to port the Liir over to Sins. Maybe thats what the Vasari are running from.... extremely angry space dolphins.
I like the idea of the "Fleet Admiral" type of ships, perhaps something more like what was done in Conflict: Frontier wars. They are more advanced versions of whatever hull it was, and were not terribly better than the average ship in a straight fight. Thier advantage was that they gave bonuses to any ships of that type (usually) within the same fleet as the admiral. And there could only be one of each type. Such a class of ship could add some diversity to Sins , but i'll admit
I'll usually use static defenses, like the hangar defense, in my "fallback" position. While I really never go into a fight expecting to lose, I know it probably will happen and having 4 hangar defense + repair bays is good enough to keep the pressure off retreating fleet for a second. Its not much of a break, but when you've got 3 wounded capships and a beat up fleet all trying for a repair, just the little bit of damage those fighters cause has tipped things in my favor more than once
I like the prates, even though we can't play as them. maybe in some future expansion I'll have the option of charging into battle with me "jolly rodger" and trusty parrot! As far as playable races go, I like playing the TEC, for the easy economy boost.
To deal with the "can't colonize due to culture" provlem, I've generally just parked 1 or 2 capships above the planet in question. It isn't the quickest solution, but it does seem to work for me. I didn't think culture actualy continued to spread. I just build a media center right behind me forward lines in order to "keep things going". Now, if only the solution for dealing with my computer-allying dark fleet spamming *insert swearword* buddy was that simple....
