I've occasionally ran into trouble fighting against normal AI ships who used the repair ships to support its fleets, they just wore me down with attrition and I couldn't hit him harder than he could heal. I tried focus firing on the hoshiko's, but the AI would just warp more in. In the end I had to retreat with heavy damage.

Don't forget the secret space pony faction.
You don't want to know the affects of powdered space pony once it's been put through one of the TEC's orbital refineries...I was seeing pink space leprechauns.
Fighters can be useful against frigates with little or no armor. Bombers are great against stations etc. Use LRM ships at range, but be careful if enemy ships come in close to engage, as they're fragile.
I couldn't figure it out the first time I played either, but you just have to research a tech...Something like "long range jumps" with different names for different factions, of course. You make the jump from orbit around your system's star and it otherwise functions just like any other short-range jump. Sit back and enjoy the glowy effects.
I'm considering filing a complaint with the FCC about Sin's uncanny similarity to the most vile substance known to man, "Video Game Crack". I was up til 7 am on an uncontrolled Advent binge, intent on domination of the galaxy. I cackled with glee when waves of TEC ships met their doom in nova-bright Anti-matter fueled explosions that vented their fury in the cold depths of space. But no, sins did not only haunt my waking moments, for when I stumbled groggily to my bed the sleek dark shape
I've seen it mentioned here and there that fighter capacity in capitol ships can be upgraded (the TEC carrier can get up to 7 fighter squadrons but starts with 2 I believe) but I have yet to discover what tech you have to research or upgrade you need to purchase in order to get more fighter capacity.
I've played a couple games and the normal AI hasn't really thrown anything at me I couldn't defend. It does play some dirty, dirty tricks though. I've gotten spammed by siege ships that attacked one of my terra worlds with no real defenses, when my fleet confronted them they ran like chickens with their heads cut off, I jumped after them and they all jumped back and nuked my planet again before I could warp back. Gotta give the AI coders props, but I WILL have my revenge. Still, my planet surviv
