You're probably right about the Novalith but personally I'm really trying to avoid end game strats dependent on superweapons... Guess I'm probably crippling myself but I have trouble accepting there are no other alternatives.

LOL, nice work :)
I use them religiously with the other support cruisers, but I build pretty balanced fleets until I see a reason to adjust them to counter. Like most tools, it's knowing when and how to use them that matter more than just tossing them in the mix and expecting huge gains from it.
The TEC colony cap ship has a few useful ability to boot. It increases dps and range of all nearby ships, it has Armistice and it has Ion bolt.I think Armistice is an under appreciated ability. If you're in a jam and need to retreat, it's just incredible. I know that a lot of people complain that "I don't know why you'd need an ability that's only good if you're losing!" On the other hand, if you're never having to retreat from a battle, ever, then the opponents your playing against just
Well posting a correction is just as good to me; thanks for the insight on 1.04 TEC
Excellent, welcome to the club :)
Does this make MP games difficult in terms of changed files etc? Could I still go on ICO with this and play with people unmodded?
I've never played GCII but am interested in the latest expansion of it. Do I need the base GCII before I can install the expansion, or is it standalone?I'm guessing it's standalone because Stardock is too smart to do something like that wrong based on how they released Sins, but I wanted to ask before I purchased it. Well, if you look here, http://totalgaming.stardock.com/games/?id=gc2ta , you will see that you need GC2: dark avatar to run TA. And DA requires GC2. The indivi
All I can say is.. wow... The possibilities of this game engine, well... I'm guessing they're waiting for the general gaming populace to catch up hardware wise so they can go crazy with it :)
Well sounds like a lot of bitchin. No matter how over powered any one unit is. It still takes someone smarter than a monkey to win with any of the races. Are you smarter than a monkey>:?
You might have a point.. but please don't feed the trolls. However slightly antagonistic, these are the opinions of experienced players on an open forum, and honestly I'm really interested to hear both sides. I know I'll learn something from it. Therefore to me it's n
I love GalCiv II but I think I made a small mistake when I got Sins.... Because I have a GeoForce 5200 with 256megs, I forgot why I was scared to get it the first time. Well I loaded it and it doesn't work right. I get only half a page distorted view. Can't get a 6600 because I only have 200 watt power supply. I guess I was hoping that having 256 instead of 128 might make up for it not being a 6600. If anyone has any Ideas I am eager to listen...
The model number rea
Buy GalCiv II and be sure you get at LEAST the first expansion. The second upcoming (this month) expansion is gonna be fucking nuts as well so buy it too. That game is much deeper than Sins and will provide you with more time sink. GalCiv II becomes exponentially more exciting with each expansion. The difference between vanilla and Dark Avatar blew my mind, and Twilight of Arnor is adding even more stuff than they did in Dark Avatar.Sins is an excellent game, but it sounds like you are lo
This is fine, but I try to avoid cheesy tactics like this as I suspect the developers will make them bad choices to attempt as time goes on. It's like LRMs... yes I know they're great but I don't spam them and probably waste a lot of resources building mixed arms fleets. Depending on any one tactic is sure to backfire on you eventually though...
You know, given the style of play I lean towards and generally the type of campaign I like to play, I think I really should work on playing small maps more. I probably suck on them :P
I've beaten every skill level including Unfair on 1.04 using this as a base, but honestly I think it's almost always how I react to the map layout that allows that to happen. My fleets at the beginning are usually just lots of mixed frigates but always end up mixed arms fleets containing certain proportions of all the types of ships, tailored towards whatever I'm facing at the time. They were good ideas, and I am sure you know what you are doing. I just wanted to make sure this player knew
Imperium Galactica (the first one) was my fave. I still to this day haven't had an epic ridiculously long impossible campaign in any game since then. Shame it doesn't run properly on XP.I'm also one of those strange people who liked playing Pax :O
I never got to try either but wanted to. Both looked very promising, and even clunky UI's I can look past if the depth of gameplay is there.
Stardock has an (excuse the pun) ironclad reputation for doing this with their previous titles :D I even went so far as to buy two copies of GC because I want to support them so badly for it. 'Deeds, not words' is something I live my life by and greatly respect it when I see that methodology from other people. Astounded when I see it applied in business. Thank you SD/IC!!!!! Your efforts are appreciated so much more than words here are going to be able to express.

Well, Sins of a Solar Empire and GalCiv II: Dark Avatar are my current favorites. Yes, I still play GC2 and will continue to do so, it's amazing and still leaves me amazed at what can happen in that game. Older favs would be (not all being quite 4x but close) Master of Orion 2 Stronghold: Crusader and Stronghold 2. Homeworld Couple games based on Roman times like Civ/Simcity, don't recall the names :P
I love it, thanks for your work guys :) It's not just a game, it's a work of art...
Do it all the time. Try a couple Akkans, the targeting/range ability stacks as near as I can tell. A few Kols for center punch really add to this too.
1.1? Good lord... that's going to take well over a year, unless I'm completely naive about the speed future updates will be released.I'm getting no further enjoyment out of this game until I can actually experience true cooperative play in a large scale system with my close buddies who can invest a lot of time like I can.
I seriously doubt it :) Past experience with the GC series makes me confident in saying you will probably be pleasantly surprised. And if ther
I might be able to help some... Oh, nice stand against the 4 fleets jumping you earlier Monk. I'm going to look really close at the replay for what you and Jam4 did... he saved my butt or I'd been crippled at game start. Oh, I'm PaxConsortium, the new guy :P Anyhow! I think changing it on the fly could possibly create sync problems over the network, causing problems... from a coding point of view it's possible but to get it to work correctly might involve time better spent on the network code itself right now. Perhaps more endgame condition options would create more ways for the game to end outside of a default slugfest might help, but then we're discussing development time that the dev team themselves have a far clearer picture of what they can ac
