The probem with straight firing beam weapons is that you can't use them on targets that are faster and/or have better maneuverability than the weapon platform. They are appropriate on fighters against other fighters and ships or on Death Stars against planets. But the Kol could never use it against frigates or other battle ships that are not already in its line of fire. Seeing how slowly it steams and rolls the lasers would most of the time be useless and leave the Kol with its meager autocannon

KOL beam weapons firing at crazy angles is irritating. I find this not the least irritating but think that this is how beam weapons actually should work. You shouldn't use a moving turret when you can direct the beam with a small mirror - or a reflective field, to stay in the SF environment. Think e.g. of sky beams and laser projectors. Or the airborne lasers for missile defense: its definitely not the Boeing 747 that is precisely following a missile but

Closing the program will not create a memory leak any longer. Great work fixing this! Was this really addressed in the current update? About 30 min after my last game yesterday I saw in the task manager that 'Sins of a Solar Empire.exe' was still running, using about 800 MB RAM.

The internal font names are in Unicode, i.e. 16 bit characters. So it would read ".S.i.n.s.A.g.e.n.c.y.B.o.l.d", with the dots representing 00hex characters. If you are not familiar with hex editors you could also use a font editor, but all freeware programs for Windows have vanished. The fonts' internal type face names were changed to match their file names - but unfortunately only for "Englisch (American)", language identifier 1033. is there a way to install the missing font of the game? since I to have the problem with text going outside of the boxes etc? I have the same problem.
