Ok I been rooting around on the web. and came across this page, It discusses the various ways of applying spherical textures . [link="http://www.vterrain.org/Textures/spherical.html"]WWW Link[/link] Now of those listed, I cannot seem to find the method that sins uses. At first I thought it was the cube method . Then again omnitect method is probably the method they use.
what I would like to do is to be able to create a sphere. in say (blender) then just apply my texture to it and remove the seams. but unfortunatly blender seems to wrap it and pinch the poles ,instead of the cross method.I am trying to find some outside method (not in sins )to wrap a texture the cross way.or what do you call that way anyhow?
Anyone know why this games uses these cross shaped textures? Reccomend some program that could view A mesh.? or anyone know what its size is? (mesh:triangles.polygons)so i could maybe build my own to work with in blender I can make seamless ,tileable textures. but I want more detail .
Yea I am to the point where I am going to make A planet template in a grid with numbers big enough to see actually rendered,. then just see exactly where it all lines up ;} once i do that i can just connect the lines on a new image and use it as a kinda transparent layer to guid me while i work these areas. hopefully this will finally rid me of this problem
Ok There was A previous post about planet textures. where we discussed how to use polar coords filter in photoshop to remove the seams from our textures. I went ahead and made A complete copy of uzils mod. and want to make the entity files for 4 more planet types. (no research needed) i'll try all that later. Is their A main file in the Gameinfo folder that I need to add to before I add Entity files for my 4 planets.or will they just show ?I really just want them to be choices to populate random maps or that i could just chan
make sure the planets team ownership is set and they have home planet

This is exactly the information I needed. I found Uzils Entity files and am currently just looking at each one and getting a feel for what each entry does .with this info in mind. OK spent last night creating about 35 new planet textures. now I want to be able to make new random planet textures for all the planets. I do not want to replace any of the originals. what I want to do is to add new textures for sins to choose when selecting a planet. for example there are currently 2 desert ,2 volcanic,2 terran,2ice, what i want to do is add more. so that there are more than 2 of each kind to choose from. so if i were to add texture files to the textures folder. but
ok took my first foray into making new planet textures. using photoshop/lunarsphere made some textures and converted them into dds files. I went into sins textures to look at the planet textures there. and noticed all were 5.33 mb in size. so I was wondering exactly what size and configuration i need my textures to be in to be able to replace the sins ones without any problems so I would need to know preferred dimensions of the textures. Tried to look through all 200 or so comments for some info on how i would go about using these new planets in forge. If possible could you explain how to do that, I already know about editing galaxy files in notepad,would I have to add these planets to a map after I use forge?

ok made this map. thought everything was fine. try to load it to play , and it immediatly says i am defeated. along with everyone else. I press keep playing and look to see that there is nothing there to see. no planets or stars or anything but the backround stars.
ok I have read all the posts concerning the manual text editing required to connect my wormholes that reside in seperate star systems . yet I cant seem to get it to work. from what I understand .to find out what planet is the particular one to list in the file . i count down the list of planets in each star. , for example the wormhole in star 0 is the 5th down that stars list but it is named planet 32(confusing me yes) and the wormhole in star 1 is 24th in its list and it is nam
