Ok, I've played quite a few games, but now I've run into a performance problem that I can't seem to fix. I am playing a medium-size map. Two stars with 4 planet groups each against 4 hard AIs. Two of the AIs are already wiped out. The AI that killed the second one has a pretty large fleet that I have cornered. When he finally attacks, my approximately 100 ships and his approx. 150 ships are in the same system and after a minute or so, everything turns into a slideshow, and after anot
if stars/asteroid fields etc dont interrupt trade chains, why should a 0 logistics (ie you cant build a trade port) dead asteroid? definitely something to fix.Because those systems are completely uncolonizable. A dead asteroid is colonizable.
and your point is? yes, colonizable, no, cannot build a trade port. if you cannot built a trade port, it shouldnt count, colonizable or not. the colonizable status is meaningless. no trade port possible, so you shouldnt be punished
Wow, I can honestly say I have never seen this or any slowdowns. I do have an ATI card though. My impression that the last few Nvidia driver releases have been pretty crappy. Who knows. But there must be a difference between the way ATI and Nvidia render those effects.
Are you Advent fighting Advent with large fleets? It's not a problem with just a couple Guardians, its when you have multiples in both fleets that the screen becomes a white hole....

I have to second this, if I am Advent fighting Advent with large fleets, I cant even see my ships, it just becomes a blinding pure whiteness. And if I zoom in I can barely see them, and Ive had my computer lockup. I have a 2.4 duo with a 8600mt card, and no graphical issues except for this. My suggestion would be for the computer to only draw new areas filled in by the aura, so that overlapping auras dont ever become more opaque. Or for the opacity to be capped at 2x or 3x the normal o

it's the white tenticle starbursts, not sure if its the guardian or subjagator. when there's more then one in an area i can barely see ships. and im using a 8600mt, newish card with recent driver, hmm....

Ive had this problem a couple times now playing as Advent, or against Advent, or worse as Advent against Advent -- the Guardian (or Subjagator) AoE fills up the screen with so much whiteness that I cant even see any of the ships. I like effects, but ones that interfere with gameplay are a bit too much. Ships should always appear above the effects. Is there anyway to reduce this effect?

obviously you cant cant change speed during the game, as other people are playing. i dont think youd be happy if someone else had control of the speed, theres not really a good way to implement this (other then changing setting at the beginning of the game for the entire game).

i think destroyers would be an interesting addition to the game. they could be made in the capital ship factory, at a 1/3-1/2 of what a capital ship costs, with maybe one special ability. more variety wouldnt hurt...

you dont "beat levels" in this game, once your opponents are dead that round is done. it gives you the option to continue after you have killed them though, so you can see how to expand your econ, whats higher on the tech tree, etc...

the obvious comparison is galactic civ 2, where you can do an influence/cultural win, technological win etc as well as the pure military win.... some variety would be nice. yes, youd have to fight also, but having other factors in the win would make for a more varied game.

ok, they need to explain this in-game, whatever the reason is. as it is compared to gal civ constantly in the press, i was expecting the same freedom to move between systems. without a reason (jump gates for example) it just seems bizarre and limiting.

im also not understanding the logic of jump lanes. once i am out of a planet's gravity well, why cant i go in any direction? is this explained somewhere? it seems tactically very limiting.

ok, just did the first tutorial. first impression, is there a reason for limiting travel to specific jumps (ie i can only go to one other planet from home)? this should be spelled out, ie jump gates to planets or whatever. i don't know what the reasoning was to go this way, but with 3d zoom from micro to macro it seems weird i cant just jump in any direction once out of the gravity well.
