I usually try to have two in working order at all times. That's not because I really need two, although it helps get around the two-minute cooldown and the antimatter recharge time. The real reason is to make sure I don't accidentally end up without one due to enemy action just after I queue up enough new ships to use all my fleet points. That really can be a speed-bump. The buying process was a bit complicated, but that was the only flaw. The security was of a high standard throughout the transaction and there is no requirement to let them keep the credit card number for future purchases... which might otherwise be of some concern to your father. Bottom line, it is safe for him to buy you the game with a credit card.

I struggled somewhat to get it with a totalgaming.net subscription, but I did succeed using a credit card. They'd also have accepted paypal and probably a major debit card would work too. The absolutely critical thing that no-one mentions is that the email address you use to buy a totalgaming.net subscription must match the one for the stardock.net account you want to use the game on.
