that was the idea. name templates like "system defense" or "attack squadron" whatever, then to expand the concept, combine variouse templates into one big, but so that each and every element could be separated back into original template. or make even system template. Example: I want for each and every system to have minimum defences, important systems should have more defense and frontiers should have all else.

I was just wondering would it be possible to have standard task force template. the reasoning goes like this: you create task force template - number of ships, orders, positions (if possible). then after battle you click on a button and reinforce that task force to full fighting status, of course, you have to wait for those reinforcements to arrive, but you get the idea. also it would work well with creating taskforces. something like moo3, but slimmer. set up a point where task forces a

Civilization, first game ever. Homeworld 2, but only because I got it before Homeworld. X-com, master of orion 2, indiana jones and raiders of the lost arc. played that when I was twelve. took me and a friend whole schoolyear to crack it.

ah, I didn't catch it in that context. A famous paradox. along the lines of having a sheet of paper which has printed on it: "this sheet was intentionally left blank". But the line I had in mind was "I will be hanged". quite ingenious.

it's not like that, you start with the beginning and work up. so in 1st grade of highschool mathematics you learn inequations, equations, that sort of thing, second grade is trigonometry, logarythms and exponantial equations, third grade is algebra, polynoms, fourth is more algebra, with derivations, combinations and probabilites if there's enough time. history you start with learning about prehistorc and old age - roman empire - second grade is early middle age, third is late middle age

in what way is inefficent? so i guess you went to mathematical school, that would be equal to our mathematical gymnasium where you'd get more mathematics 5 hours, with 3 hours of computer science and more for physics. what exactly you mean by science, biology, chemistry, physics? we have those I guess it boils down to that you have more tehnical orientation, while we have more scocial sciences. Of course, if you want to specialize in something we have technical highschools where you

clarify, please, a bit with a lie, what exactly you mean by that?

@ticksNleeches8th you get extra points for twisting my words, bravo! bonus points on that one alone. it goes way beyond few capitals. compare it any way you like, best school, average schools (although it would be difficult to come to terms what average is) let me give you an example of my educational system, going from primary school: at age 6 you go to primary school. at 7 you learn to read, write, basic arithmetics (adding, subtracting) at 8 you learn second foregin la

@emperor, I believe hitchiker's guide was pretty much true in that regard we are all @ninja hate to burst your bubble, but that's simply flawed reasoning. you are applying principle that two subsets of n horses have same element (color), however that is not proof. this works if n=1, but if n=2 assumption fails. now here's true paradox Suppose there is a town with just one male barber; an

@ticksNleeches8th the whole thread degenerated into "all hail america, bow to us". I am just tired of people saying america is best. I'll be first to admit the Europe has some serious drawbacks, but usa isn't the promised land if you're not white & rich. @emperor what statistics?! who mentioned statistics?! I didn't even begin with statistics. this was based on personal experience. @schematics are you so seriously without arguments that you forget anything that doesn't suit y

you all speak so loudly of america.. So how come americans accepted all those measures after 911 that are so discriminating against non-white people or poor people? they are restricting against everyone to a degree, but to those minorities there is no degree. and how come american highschool kids are... to put it bluntly, dumber than their european counterparts? you say you learn more in total? it's totally the opposite. not only americans learn less than europeans, they learn less speci

Would explosions effect ship movements? If there's huge decompression on the port side of the ship, would it move to the starboard? Also if engine is taken out, would ship veer to that side?

Would it be possible to create a battle plan? Example: At my mark I want cap ships to turn left to that bearing, light ships should dive and move under the enemy, interceptors will screen the cap ships, bombers and their escort will turn right fly 2 clicks and begin their torpedo run. Whole tactics?

I don't know how accurate a radar should be to distinguish between two squadrons flying in perfect sync just meters apart... Imagine tactis you could do with it. It would add a lot of realism to the game

Would it be possible to create template formations? like small, medium, large... that we could define composition and placement? (or have several predefined, depending on species)

Would it be possible to have imperfect sensors? So that that little flotilla you planned to ambush is a little bit more than you expected? Or for example if you see the enemy launching fightes you can't tell if it's 4 or 5 squadrons? naturally if it works for computer it should work for you. the difference shouldn't be that large, say 5-30% of the fleet, and not always? percentage could be influenced by stellar phenomena or objects, proximity to stars...

I'd go for tactical RTS. sounds silly, but something like MOO3. The decision to move your fleets and which worlds to hold and which to bombard was strategical. Once you chose what to do, you actually got down to HOW to do it. that's tactics. Take WWII and battle at coral sea. Tactically Japan won that engagement. they inflicted heavier losses to USA. However, strategically, USA stopped Japanes advancment into to south asia. That was tremendous strategic victory for USA.
