Thanks I will look through those. Is it possible for you to share with me these obj and fbx files for the models if I decide to try and make a mod? For sure it wont be a full fledged mod as I am just one person but I really want to give this a shot as the market right now is really lacking proper sci-fi space games.
Agreed with ST:O being crap. I like eve because of its complexity, and "risk" factor. As a certain captain once said "Risk is part of the game". However i do hear you on not wanting to invest so much only to lose it in a second. My toons are now carebears in empire building up a mighty warchest for my next 0.0 rampage. Embarrassing yes, but even suicidal psychos need isk too. X3, or TC would be the way for you to go then. The mod com
You would be better off modding X3TC using Sins meshes. "IF" Ironclad would allow you to use the IP for other than personal use. You can always contact them and ask. CCP allows use of Eve-Online IP for other games as long as they are made aware of it. MMO-ish Eve-Online is the only game in town for the genre. Which is not bad at all TBH. I have a 5 year old toon that is still ganking on Eve. Ryat is correct. The Sins
You mean use those things and mod them into a different game that is MMORPG?
Yep. I am thinking about using existing solutions for MMORPG network architectures that exist but I have zero 3D/Physics engine skills which is practically already complete in Sins to be used in an MMORPG. How likely would it be for Ironclad to allow you, or sell you a license, to use those assets? Because the thing is, if you think ab

Hm, what about using the games gfx/sound assets and physics engine? Would it be too much to hope for Ironclad to allow someone to use those?

I was wondering, would it be remotely possible to mod this game to have a persistant server where the AI control the empires and players controls a single ship, so that the game in effect becomes an MMORPG? If not possible through modding, how much modification of the game do you think it would take?

21 Replies 12,103 Views

Yes I played SC 3 and it was pretty awesome with the multiplayer, persistant galaxy feature. Dont understand why no other game like it is being released.

Well the reason MMO-RTS are so hard to create is that the moment you log of everything pretty much goes down the drain. No, what I meant is actually an MMORPG where you control one and only one ship (plus fighters if you have a capital ship capable of housing them) and then you live in one of the three empires, who are controlled by AI, and try to affect the outcome. That way you can engage into the many fleet battles that the AI take part in or make your own raid, deep in ene

X2/X3 has no multiplayer support, to my knowledge and Freelancer is way too outdated. Eve is the only one that has somewhat updated GFX but the game emphasizes economy and crafting much more than combat, which is kinda lacklustre. I guess what my question would be if Sins could be modded to be run as a persistant game? Theoretically it should not be an issue since player hosted games are already possible. So what needs to be done other than that is to let people log in/of but

First of all, PC games are not dead and certainly not killed by consoles. Consoles are for action/sport games etc where as PC games are more for RTS/MMORPG and other more indepth games for grown ups. Secondly the reason Micro$oft left the PC gaming world is because they cannot control the platform (the hardware) so they cannot win the "war" against piracy. So they gave up and created the XBox where they have full control of the platform.

I was thinking about it the other day when I was in a really long game with the AI that spanned over total of 40 hours. And my thinking was that wouldnt this game be a really cool MMORPG? I mean the engine is pretty much there, needs some tweaking so it is easier to auto-follow your avatar-ship. But if done I think it would really be cool. Start as a frigate in one of the empires and then move yourself up towards cruisers and then eventually capital ships. Hav

I agree with the OP and I dont care about his english skills. He is right because right now carriers are the pinnacle of any fleet. If you dont have it and your opponent does then you are at a serious disadvantage. Is it supposed to be like this?

I wind up repeating things many MANY times both here, and on PM's for people that do not bother to read the Main Topic, or past pages. It can be very frustraiting when people ask the same questions over, and over, and over again. When the information is right there. If it seems like i am being snippy i
OK i am going to repeat this again.... There is much about Sins that is HARDCODED. Phase Jumping is one of them. We can modify the effect to a point, but that would mean ALL of the ships would do the same effect. not just "cloaked' ships. If we could do cloaking while jumping it would already be done dont you think? We are lucky to have Lord Tareq's cloak despite the fact it is mostly a cosmetic deal. Im not going to get into any de
The issue is that cloaking is a part of established trek lore. Not having it is like the unforgivable sin. Having a bad cloak is just as unforgivable. So we are in a kind of "damned if you do, and damned if you dont. situation. We cant "write out' the cloak in trek. I personally would rather have no cloak, and explain it off as the ships dont fight cloaked anyway, but you can see how rabid some fans can get. This cosmetic cloak seem

You just arent sure what they are, or how many until they uncloak. Not sure if that is possible because of the icons in the UI, but the fact that you cant attack them and they cant attack you may be a

Hm, thats interesting. So does this mean that focusing your ships fire on a single target is generally a bad idea since its shield mitigation would max out? Becuase I routinely target ships that I find annoyin such as carriers/transporters to get rid of those pesky fighters.

Hi, Ive had the games for a couple of weeks and now routinely play AI on hard/unfair level. However one thing I have noticed is that I am losing alot of fights that are evently matched and then I have noticed that the AI ships have 50%+ shield mitigation but my ships only got 15%. Is this some kind of AI bonus or is there a way to get it that high? If so then how? Thanks

Hi, Been waiting for this mod, or any Star Trek, for 6 months now. Is there an ETA for a version that is balanced enough to be played against the AI? Cant wait to get a squadron of D'Deridex Warbirds attacking the Federation Homeworld :D

1,754 Replies 4,112,106 Views

oh does that include the ships? (no offense) Yes, some of them. Hm, thats a bit worrying. Will there be a way to mod this game, as in GC II, where you can use your own ship models? Like the Star Trek mod for that game.

I dont think that in multiplayer it would be a good idea to see what ships are experienced or not. If that would be the case then most people would destroy them first and it would be next to impossible to build up experience on your ships.

After playing the beta I must say that I'm a bit dissapointed with the gfx, ship gfx particulary and also the weapon sounds. I would say its on par with Homeworld 2, which was released ages ago, and worse than Nexus: The Jupiter Incident. Not really what you would expect from a game being released in 2007. Are there any plans to improve the gfx significantly or is this basically what we will get in release?
