Actually, maybe...temporarily. Carielf has an unfinalized version 1.8f zip pinned at the top of Bug Reports forum. It was promulgated on a weekend to fix a particular bug in the current SDC DA v.1.8e, but with the push to beta-test-and-tweak TA, it has languished for a couple of weeks without final in-house approval and scripting as the SDC standard build. If you have DA already, you should be able to follow Cari's instructions in that post to update your DA to 1.8f test, if y
Hey, kryo, I know everyone is kinda tied up with TA right now, but there is a fair amount of friction evident among the non-beta-players about the 1.8e issues, and older stuff like this thread. It seems like it would be real good to get 1.8f moved out to be the current standard on SDC. There are a lot of old hands that have played it for awhile now with little complaint; can it be blessed and posted? drrider
Otherwise, Warp Bubbles are good enough (especially the third one) that they relieve the need to research better engines to a certain extent. I think I'd generally go all the way to Bubbles III before I even got Impulse Drives (beyond the first one for the speed bonus, I mean), otherwise.
I sorta got the impression that Brad and the dev staff may actually want to encourage that, to lead the Terrans to be really fleet oriented. drrider
I'm a newbie with questions. 1. Why are my games taking so long. 8 game years on a large map for a political victory. Am I just not very good? Underaggressive? Or do I need to play on a smaller map? 2. Is there a place where the medals we are awarded are explained? Wounded in action? Racial victory? I'm sure I'll think of others.
1) Play on a smaller map if you want quicker, or lower the setup densities. 8 years in not an excessive time for a
Current questions that linger in my mind- How do "tiny" hordes of ships with maxed minitiarization fare against larger capital ships? Will the capital ships kill one every time they shoot, or do they spread their fire out more efficiently?
In my experience, smalls in fleets at your current log max will fare better than tinies. Smalls will have enough room to give them a modicum of defense, and at least one of your biggest weapon. I believe that squadrons of them may hav
Do i want to wnt to play a unbalanced race and have a "win game" button? Yes. That's... sort of pathetic, but to each their own. You can mod yourself a super race quite easily if that's actually your idea of fun, but honestly if you're not in it for the challenge what's the point of playing the game in the first place?
Oh, I don't know. To show up in a well-developed all-races galaxy with 1-2 small super ships, trem
phew, for a moment there i was worried you got 3 Precursor Libraries at the start
Actually, I did once, but the set up was strictly cakewalk, no abilities, start conditions testing, so it was unplayable. That was before Cari nerfed it. drrider
Even at max logistics you can only band together one huge hull and maybe four small ones.
If that is all you can fleet together, then you have never reached max logistics. Max logistics is well over 50, even with the most logistics restricted race. You should certainly be able to fleet 5 huge hulls together in the late game, possibly as many as 7+ with the Yor. I've had fleets of as many as 20+ small-hull attack ships running around in the late game. M
(I know I'm going to hate myself tomorrow for reporting this for nerfing...) TA beta 2 build. Set up a race (any race) with as few Research bonuses as possible. This will be 0 for the Drengin, Korath, and Arceans; +10% for planet rings for Torians and Yor; and +10% for inherent racial ability for Terrans. Generate a game. On the economics screen and set the sliders for 100% production, going into 100% research. Now go look at the home planet output. Dreng
It was very disconcerting to think of fighting wars with cargo hulls mounted with weaponry.
Actually I have a couple of super-armed (8-9 black hole eruptors) cargo-hull designs that I use to finish off games where I am the tech king with ultimate defenses but don't have many ships, or when I have shifted over to all-attack mode (you can put about 13 bhe's on them then.) Think about it. At that point in the game the hit points of a single ship don't mean much, s
Cam, Cari's test fix is available in a .zip file at the top of this thread. There are testing delays due to the state of ferment that TA is in right now, and this is a huge holiday weekend from now til monday in the States, so 1.8f isn't going to be up on SDC til at least next week, but the engine from the .zip works fine. Follow Cari's cautionary instructions and install instructions. drrider
That's OK, daniel, the nice men will be there soon to help you. We already have people working on getting you back to your alternate reality. But in the meantime, put on the funny jacket and go with the nice men. drrider
I don't use the abundant settings myself, but I am pretty sure that in one of the post-1.8 minor updates, around 1.8d, the system generation top limit got set back up to 1.71 levels. However, the 1.8e version that is on SDC right now has a pretty serious movement bug. There is an unfinalized 1.8f version available from Carielf as a zip at the top of the Bug Reports forum. drrider

That tech is called "Scam Artistry". drrider
Yes. drrider
Let me get this straight. You are an artist. Your boss suggested a technique (which you had to implement) that makes your ideas and images look vastly better. Your boss gave you a venue to make thousands of people go "Ooh!" and "Ah!" over dozens if not hundreds of items of your work. Said thousands of people are going to write you in a public forum to slather YOU (not him) with praise. YOU are grumbling that you hate to lose. You ARE an artist...Right?<br
With all respect, I see nothing on Stardock's game packaging to say that the contents are at a beta stage of development! Yes, Stardock do put a lot into supporting the users and fixing bugs - but it is just NOT acceptable when a bug of this magnitude stops someone from actually being able to play the game! Please stop trying to defend the indefensible - when a software bug stops the software from being used for what it was purchased for then it's a big problem. It is NO

Make sure that the monitor, the vid card, and the game are ALL set for 1680x1050. And if you are running off motherboard imbedded graphics, invest in at least a modest (US $120-150) video card. drrider
I might also {ahem} coincidentally {ahem} have a backup folder somewhere with that entire (pre-nerf) beta build in it. Just because I'm so cautious and all. Happy Thanksgiving! drider
