I think people need to understand that combat is abstracted in this game. In reality the ships aren't just sitting there while they lob destruction at each other. They're dodging, evading, moving in and out of range. Missles don't always hit. They're manuevering for position to gain an advantage. That's my explanation at least for the countering. LRFs are vulnerable to ships that can out manuever them enough that they can't bring their heavy guns to bear like scouts. I'm assuming LRFs have li

I really liked the idea of being able to fleet down. You can drop as many tech levels in fleet support as you want at any time if you really need econ back... BUT to fleet back up you have to research all over again investing the resources (and time!) necessary to do so.
I think he was talking about shelter upgrades. Ok... How about this. The devs put the siege ship early cause they felt early game needed a ship that could attack planets besides having a cap. Makes sense. But then the ship had to be easily countered early game. Fair enough. And we don't want to add more ships to the game as clutter. So what if the siege frigate had a special upgrade at like 5-6 mil labs? An upgrade that greatly increased it survivability so that it could fight with the fleet
What if Vas could build a starbase in an adjacent system prepped for a one time warp? It could cost more for the massive phase engines and they would be burnt out after a single use... Or maybe you could add phase engines to any Vas starbase for a great cost... It's a thought that would definitely require some balancing... But it would make sense with Vasari ideology...
I never understood why only certain weapons could attack planets at all. Maybe all could but most would be extremely ineffective? Like less than 5%. Or maybe not that. But then if you have this extremely powerfull weapon that is so strong it's the only type of weapon that can be used on planets why is it never used in combat. I understand maybe it's too slow and lumbering to his frigates or cruisers but what about against buildings? They don't move any more than planets... Or even maybe
