I agree. I also think that the fighters ought to get some sort of different treatment in the empire tree, since they'll often double the size of my fleet in terms of sheer icons. Maybe a second, collapsible tree for them?

+ Fixed stuttering sound problem. Thank you very much! I can now run the game with sound... just put in a solid hour and a half of gaming, and I love what's been done with the fleet battles. It feels much more 3d now, with ships flying up and down as well as around.

I am not certain how to address this one. Personally, I never had a sense of 'Crampness' in the game, aside from the icon representations. Some of the screenshots were from heavily modded game. Perhaps they are showing a false representation? I don't know. Anyone else have similar feelings on this one? I get the opposite impression; all my space battles feel very spread out. Later game, this changes a little, and as I get larger fleets, they group clos

I'm still getting my strange audio bug. The sound clips cut in and out for all engine noises, gunfire noises, and explosion noises. When moving a regular Arcova Frigate, for instance, the engine firing up noise goes once, cuts halfway through, then starts again, cutting halfway through, then does the same thing a third time. Weapon sounds and explosion sounds are a touch more sporadic, but the effect is similar. I can play the game fine so long as I shut off all sound effects; the clipp

It sounds like there's a large amount of support for the dismantling of the phase highway system, though some people are concerned that this could make for easy invasion behind the front lines of your system. There are a few ways to counter that particular difficulty: 1) No jumping through wells - This means the enemy fleets would have to roll all the way through a gravity well to the far side, letting you see where they would be jumping to. This is especially potent if the gra

I'm with Brad on this one. I think the ship weapons should deal more damage overall. Not too much more, maybe 1.25-1.5x as much as they do right now, but I find that my ships take a good long while to take down any enemies, no matter how badly they outnumber my foes. Early game battles against pirates can get very tiresome this way.

It's certainly an interesting idea, and the way you've described it makes it seem quite compelling. I have to admit, this would bring a good deal of complexity to the game, and could really open up tactical and strategic options. I'm not sure what sort of impact that would have on the gameplay, but I'd be interested to find out!

i agree with making the gravity well bigger. i said something to that extent on the game play thread. i feel that they should include more objects that can be colonized per gravity well, like 2-3 planets that way ppl can fight in the space between. the same can be applied to asteroids you can have a belt with 4-5 asteroids that can be colonized the well will be bigger because of the added objects. The thou

Hey, are there gas giants? (Star Wars ships need tibanna gas from them to add some kick into their weapons ) I don't think so... it seems the only planets in here are habitable planets. Unless you count the stars themselves... that said, I think it would be cool to have

Wait until we get all the wreckage and debris in as well, that should up the death quality level a notch or two Now that's an exciting prospect. They look pretty sweet already; adding the wreckage and debris will make it amazing. <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/smil

The different types of planets in Beta 1 are quite interesting, but I'd like to add one to the list; twin worlds. Maybe a planet with a moon almost as large as itself, or an asteroid field with a couple of large enough rocks, but it would be interesting to have a couple of systems with twin planets. It could really add a random strategic advantage for various sectors, and it would make for interesting battles if two factions managed to colonize one apiece.

I've been playing a little more. So far so good, I haven't seen any crashes or bugs. I'm still experiencing that odd audio bug, however, and there don't seem to be many settings to tinker with in regards to audio. It happens mostly in combat, primarily with engine noises, weapon noises, and explosion noises; each sound clips in and out apparently at random. It gets very annoying over the course of even a short game. <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/smiles/Tongue.gif" b

I think I have a new bug here. Everything seems to be working fine so far as the game goes, but every sound effect seems clipped, especially with combat. The gunshots will clip in and out, explosions will clip in and out, and ship engine noises do the same. Otherwise, so far so good. A long time ago, I played a game called Space Empires 2. The only other 4X style game I'd played was Civilizations, but being a science fiction buff, I was enthusiastic about sending fleets of starcruisers across the galaxy. When I stumbled upon a review for Galactic Civilizations II in PC Gamer, I was pleasantly surprised to read the glowing praise lavished on the game that sounded hauntingly familiar. It seemed like this would be very close to the empire-building game I had enjoyed
