I have had a few small map games where the primary choke points on the map were asteroid belts and as such weren't colonizable. Normally if there was a colonizable planet/asteroid there, I would drop in the monster defenses and use it to section off a large chunk of the system from the enemy. So if you can't build hangars/gauss/etc, is the only option to station a fleet there? Or is there something else that I am missing?

Not sure if this is a dumb question but it doesn't seem to be answered in the manual. If I build 2 frigate factories around the same planet, does that mean they will produce ships twice as fast? From the handful of games I have played it looks like they share the same queue and as such there isn't a way to tell one factory to produce LRMs while the other produces cruisers so I'm not sure if there is an actual benefit to having more than one factory.
