Real gamers (anyone who played Diablo 1 is considered by the casual crwod to be ultra hardcore now btw) still have games made for them, and you can customise most to your likeing (Like the permadeath insane modes)..
I...I think this is the first time anybody has described me as being ultra-hardcore [e digicons]o_O[/e] What if we played Diablo 1 without duping a GPoW? Is that ultra-ultra hardcore?&n

ZehDon, it appears that we have different definitions of "difficult", and are not going to convince each other to change. I think we should probably just agree to disagree ;)

They won't give you anything for extreme techs they can't get any use out of. So if you want to trade them away, make sure it's early enough in the extreme-planet phase of the colony rush that there's still plenty of decent ones to go after.
Actually I tried to guard starbases with ships, but I found that pretty ineffecient. You constantly have to pay for these ships. You always got to watch over them, make them attack if an enemy nears, and you´ll need to upgrade them once the enemy has better weapons researched. this costs a hell usually.... Therefore I usually research the starbase defense tech very early in the game, enabling my starbases to have an attac

Difficulty is how hard it is to finish the game. Period. Just because you don't like the source of difficulty doesn't change the fact that it's still difficulty. If you find it easy, then it isn't difficult. It doesn't matter why you find it easy, the only thing that matters is whether or not it is.

Can one add a mega-ability to a custom race? If so, does it require going into the files? I'd like to try a custom race, but the absence of a mega-ability has been offputting. I might try it again, if it does not require non-pc-literate moi playing with files.
I like not having to refill queues all the time, but being able to customize it beyond endlessly building the same thing would come in pretty handy with transports. One of the most annoying things in the game is the amount of micromanagement required to make transports due to your shipyards running out of population, and that would be fixed by being able to tell it to build two transports, then three warships, then repeat the sequence.

I think that the very existence of this thread goes to show that gamers aren't getting soft. What's changing is that game companies are now trying to sell to people who want to experience a game, not try to slog their way through Battletoads.
Sounds reasonable, but no, as i already explained, you will need that little thing called 'technology' no matter what strategy you use. Since Terrans are the only race that can get technology from the AI in any kind of remotely workable way, this puts them with a serious universal advantage over other races. The Arcean super ability is nothing, and is useless and can not be applied in any way shape or form if you don't have any competent weapons

That sounds about like what I've been seeing in DA ever since I bought it. So, assuming that TA uses the same combat model as DA (which, from everything I've read, it seems it does): Defenses degrade as they're used up, so you had 2 defense trying to stop 5 attack. That's pretty much a guaranteed loss for you, and from what I've experienced, I'm not really surprised you didn't take any of them down with you.
I think tech trading is pretty important to any strategy i use, because at the difficulty level i play at with at least 1 race set to Godlike and the others on Genious, the AI will streak ahead in leaps and bounds. When i get the research rate reports, i'm typically reported to be doing 3 - 5 percent of all the research occuring, even with several planets with research levels up into the thousands!! The AI is a reseach MONSTER on higher difficul

The problem with tactical combat isn't implementation. As you say, MoO2 has it, SEIV and SEV have it, and even Star Wars Rebellion (technically) has it. The problem is with the AI. Everybody is aware of the problems that AIs have, and those sorts of problems are greatly magnified in tactical combat. As for me, I'll just try to list ones that haven't already been said: 1) More realistic population. Even if the exact same numbers are used f

If they still have that first strike advantage, then do not research defenses, for example. Just go on the attack earlier with less tech than usual, perhaps. The problem with arming starbases is that they can't move*. All those constructors' worth of weapons and stuff that you put on a starbase goes to waste the minute the front lines move away. It can certainly be worthwhile to put a few weapons on early in the game to keep some 1-attack pissant from taking it out, but otherwise, if I'm going to have X number of guns protecting a starbase, I'd rather have them mounted on a fleet parked on the starbase, rather than on the base itself.<

If you're going to have seventeen levels of the same thing, just make it one box and update the version numbers.
DA (and thus I assume TA as well) already has this to some degree. The trees can still get a bit long at times, but iterations of the same basic tech are crammed into a single box. This is most visible with logistics and miniaturization. This seems as good a place as any to ask: does this mean that ships you make in DA can be used in DL (assuming you put them in the right place)?

3 Replies 5,480 Views

Over on the left next to the place agent icon is an icon that looks sort of like a bullseye with an arrow pointing from it. Click that and click the map, and it sets a rally point. You can then send ships straight to the rally point and set colonies to automatically send newly-built ships there.

Yeah, if they have little in the way of defenses, the disadvantage would be small. It'd technically still be there, but if you're hitting with a zillion points worth of attack against one or two points of defense, it won't matter too terribly much. Attack and defense numbers and types aren't the only things that affect the outcome of a battle. Number and size of ships matter as well. Off the top of my head, little ships can pack a lot of firepower per l
