heh....well...obvious Stardock isn't checking the formus as much as they would like us to think they are! "never heard of the problem"...oy vey. It would be nice to get this program out of beta after a year in it...wouldn't it?? I mean...if you've seen beryl on ubuntu...you know this kind of eye candy, in a stable form, is possible. So what's the hold up here Stardock? Are you going to develop this software or not??

Anyone have a cure for windows explorer crashing when windowfx is shutdown? I didn't used to have this happen...now all of a sudden it does. If I turn on my SLI, switch from dual display to SLI, WindowFX just unloaded...and windows explorer crashes. The same thing happens if I shut down WinFX manually...so it is not an issue between Nvidia drivers and WinFX. My laptop (ATI Mobility Chipset) also has the same problem. Solutions?

The latest full release is 3.00.013, if you uncheck the "pre-release" option...but it's release date is 06/06! So even though the last triplet is higher, it may not be the latest. Regardless....we got to get this fixed.

If you look at SD central, the last listed release for WindowFX is Aug 2006!!! So when the heck are we going to get the next version? It would be great if Stardock could streamline this thing so it uses memory/CPU time more efficiently and works faster (like Beryl Project in Linux). Regardless....a new release with significant improvements would be very nice. Doc

Well... I think it should..these simple animations can't be taking up THAT much bandwidth!! The same card can run Beryl under linux with flying colours...and that animation set is even stronger than Windows FX. There's gotta be a way to bring the system resources down so that it'll run more smoothly on older systems. The only really big lag point is when Windows Transitions come into play...the rest of it is pretty seemless. Doc

Somehow...someway...streamline this puppy! It looks great but on older vid cards (my mobility radeon 9000, 64 MB for example), it really gets bogged down and is slow during transitions...with or without hardware acceleration added. Less memory usage and faster graphics response would be nice! Thanks.

So I found a potential solution. I switched drivers on my Radeon Mobility 9000 to the Omega drivers vs. 3.8.252 (based on Catalyst 6.5). Once I installed these drivers...the transitions started working just as they do on my desktop. For those having issues...especially those with old video cards...make sure the drivers you are using FULLY supports the card that you have. In the case of ATi...many of the older cards aren't fully supported by the newer drivers. Good luck all.<

Sad to say, I've been having this issue to, but only with my laptop, which is running an ATi Radeon 9000 Mobility (64MB). During transition test, window minimizes to the bottom left of screen, no animation observed with any setting. The only window dragging effect which works correctly (or at least appears to) is to make the window transparent. This is regardless of the performance setting. On my desktop, which is a Nvidia 7900 GT, running the latest drivers, all transition and window draggi
