Thank you, thank you very much. It is always nice to have my wit appreciated I do hope that Schem appreciates my efforts on his behalf. It would be nice to see him post a kind reply...but then we would no longer believe that it is really him.

Well, it looks like we have Schem and TheRealSchem who both can actually write. There are some differences in the attitude and content of the posts. So it really isn't that hard to tell who is who between the two. Besides, the original Schem still owns the forum name 'SentientSchematicsofNinjas'. Hehe, he had better not change his name anytime soon or he will be really screwed. Of course, the second 'Real' Schem could just change his name to something like 'SentientSchematicofNinjas' and no

Wow, you've seen through my attempt to point out that you aren't Schem. What probably gave my intention away is when I said you weren't Schem. You know, you are pretty smart for a worn out shoe.

"Just remember, its MY land not yours! Clones are not what they used to be.. I am the THEREALschematicsninja!!!11!" The quality of your writing skills reveal that you aren't the real Schem.

Well, it seems like there are 2 Schems at the moment. I do hope this doesn't become a fad of some sort. Due to their intellectual quality (and virulent attack on anything displaying less than perfect intelligence), the real Schem's posts are pretty obvious. However, the impostor Schem from a good universe really hasn't said much so far. In fact, his posts are more about flaunting his existence in order to taunt the real Schem. If we could bring both Schems together in a room

They are still doing the Max Acceleration without Max Speed thing? That is just amazing. I hope they don't change their minds.

I was thinking that research might have an effect on tactical ship speed. More research will probably result in faster ships. This is just speculation though. I haven't read anything about research increasing tactical speeds. However, I am pretty sure that research will be able to increase strategic speeds (ie Phase Space speeds). I have read about this a few times in SoaSE previews...of course, it might only relate to the Vasari tech tree.

99 Replies 140,448 Views

I've read somewhere (maybe in this forum, I can't really remember where) that fiber is required for regular movement. Seriously though, from what I've read it seems like the Vasari have a speed advantage in Phase Space. This means of course they have an edge in strategic movement. As for tactical movement. We can see in the Trailer that strike craft are far faster than the capital ships (be strange if they weren't). So the different sizes of ships likely have different speed

I have this terrible feeling that the developers might try to stop Phase Space Cheapness by making tiny tactical maps. Tiny maps would force fleets to start all battles at point blank range (or nearly so) but would also stop players from jumping all over the place. After all, even if the Phase Space engine charging period is short, starting a battle at point blank range against a vastly superior foe = death before the phase jump charging period is done. Please Ironclad, don't make the

As it is, I believe that there is a charging/calibration period for ships prior to being able to jump into Phase Space. That means that once they are out of a planet/asteroid/star's gravity well, they will have to sit for a bit of time before being able to enter Phase Space. This may indeed work for preventing Phase Space Cheapness... Hmm, maybe we should have a game setup toggle switch that can set this waiting period to longer or shorter time. That would work just as well as my pre

Hi Blair, this next bit is just for you on the off chance you are reading this post. There should be a toggle switch during game setup that can force Phase Jumping to actually require an AM cost. I do see what you are trying to avoid with your present 'Phase Jump uses up but doesn't cost AM' system. Still, some of us players would prefer multi player games that would likely end more quickly and that would involve additional strategic AM considerations (some of us love more realism).

16 Replies 39,060 Views

I can kind of understand why the developers didn't want Phase jumping to cost AM. I mean, a player fleeing from battle from a much more powerful fleet would likely have all of his/her AM used up by the time they reached the edge of the gravity well (especially if shields use AM). The developers didn't want to see that player lose their entire fleet (and probably the game) because they were unable to phase jump away from an unfavorable position due to lack of AM. Also, they can't deal

Wow, we have a smart poster comedian here. I bet you were awake all night Googling that answer up. Anyway, let's try to find the answers that relate to SoaSE; at least before this topic devolves into discussions on the opposing charges of matter and antimatter subatomic particles or why the universe is partial to matter.

16 Replies 39,060 Views

Does anybody know exactly what antimatter is used for in this game? What we know so far: -Some amount of antimatter is burned off when traveling in Phase space. -Antimatter is not actually required to travel in Phase space. -Antimatter replenishes itself over time. -Close proximity to stars can speed up the recharge process. What we don't know so far: What does antimatter actually do in this game? I recall the developers released a text de

Carriers will be seriously hamstrung if the tactical maps are too small. Having battles start nose to nose will mean a quick death for carriers that face off against cruiser/battleship fleets. They might not even get all of their fighters out before they die if the battles start at point blank.

Yeah, but all these advanced races are likely using optical systems instead of electronic systems. They would be very resistant to EMP attacks. In fact, our present technology is getting close to going optical (or at the very least combo optical/electronic). Also, don't forget that magnetic shielding is possible with today's tech. Although I must admit I am not sure just how effective this type of shielding is against close range nuclear EMP.

Having nebula that cancel out shields in the occasional rare star system would be a great addition to the game. It would force players to mix it up with fleet composition and upgrading paths in order to deal with battles that occur inside those systems. Other possible effects that Nebula could have on ships might include; continuously drain AM, halt AM recharge, limit sight range on the tactical map, reduce weapon accuracy and damage, and so on) *I know the orbiting planets ar

Hehe, all you need to do now is get a semi-famous, semi-respectable celebrity to act as your spokesperson and you'll be set. Oh yeah, right. We are getting off topic. Alright, I agree with Antimatter and Phase Jumping. I think it is good.

92 Replies 146,937 Views

Hehe, thanks Schem. I like that we can always count on your blunt honesty. As for you Great Emperor, we will see just how good you are soon enough. It would be a shame to carry the title of The Great Emperor and only be an average player.

Cloak can function like it did in HW2. Sensors in HW had multiple layered zones, each layer closer to the ship was better at seeing approaching cloaked ships. So for SoaSE, anything in the closest zone could be seen regardless of cloak. The next layer of sensor range would see only low tech cloaks. A third layer would be blind to any cloaked ship, regardless of cloak tech level. As for the Bismarck being a heavy BB (Battleship), that isn't true. German ports could only hand

Dude, I don't really want to meat you...I don't swing that way. Also, all this talk of begging makes me nervous. Hehe I think you meant 'meet' in your post, not 'meat'. Hmmm, is this joke in poor taste? Bah, I'll post it anyway.

92 Replies 146,937 Views

Hehe, you two crack me up. Logic is a fun exercise in itself, especially when it affords you the opportunity to flaunt your knowledge, be it theoretical physics or whatever. So, I get what you are saying Schem and would even say most of the time I am right there with you. In fact, the quality of your posts have already convinced me that you will be a worthy opponent/ally in SoaSE multiplayer. Still, gameplay is the priority goal for the developers in this game and so sometime

Hey Lharrs, you jumped on the 'bash the debris theory bandwagon' a little too late. I already gave up on it in a while ago. The energy flair/energy vortex theory is much tidier.

Few weeks? Damn, I really hope that is the case. Still, I think it is more likely that the August release date turns into September turns into October tuns into November and finally turns into December. Isn't that how it always goes? Still, I would rather wait a few extra months and get a game that is stable, balanced and 100% done.
