It's not a problem with my hardware. I have zero issues graphically with other games. I've never had a game crash or freeze like I do with Sins. I was using the 169.21 drivers for awhile then went to the 169.25 hoping that would solve the freezing. But it's the same problem in both driver releases. System wise, I have an AMD 6000+ / 8gb ram / 7950gx2 / Vista 64 Home Premium... so I should be able to run pretty much any game out right now with no problem. I plan on going with a 9800

It's been years since I downloaded a pirated game... so long in fact, I can't even remember what game it would have been. But this was back during college / military days when my money went to important things like rent, electricity and food. Now that I have a pretty nice job and can afford to buy games, I will buy them. Although there are times when I wish I would have pirated some games so I would have known not to buy them. Quake Wars and Frontlines:Fuel of War being to good examp
To be honest, I have quit playing until this is fixed... it's ridiculous to play this way. Back to playing 2142 and Counter-Strike.
I'm running Vista 64 as well, but I have yet to actually hit a BSOD. I freeze like crazy though and have had maybe 5 or 6 crash dumps. I'm counting myself lucky that I have not seen that dreaded blue screen yet in Vista.
Thank god right? Sorry I have been such a sarcastic twit over this... For those of us who have this problem, it's very major and extremely frustrating. You can be right in the middle of something and then comes the freeze, 10 seconds later, black screen and if you are lucky it will switch back to game like nothing happened. Last night was the worst one yet for me when it sort of got in this crash loop at the wormhole and took around 10 minutes of trying to save the game in between the cr
New update from Level 2 techs... looks like a sign of progress :D Our research indicates that this issue in on our engineer's "to be fix" list. They are in process of investigating this. Hopefully a fix will be available soon. Once a fix is available, it'll be integrated into future driver updates. Please check back with us periodically for driver updates. We'll probably have new drivers coming out soon. Sorry for the inconvenience. Best regards, David
Should be Incident: 080212-000155 New reply from them... "Your case is being escalated to our Level 2 Tech Support group. The Level 2 agents will have to review the case notes. As this process may take some time we ask that you be patient and a Level 2 tech will contact you as soon as they can, to help resolve your issue" Last night I noticed the majority of my crashes involved 3 things. 1: going into the research menu 2: zooming out from planet view 3
There are no details on reproducing it... It's SIMPLY PLAY THE GAME! I've included my DXDIAG twice, and MSINFO once. Each time I submit a ticket I get the same response that they are not aware of any problems with the game.
From Nvidia support: "Thank you for updating with required information. The issue you are experiencing does not seem to be a known issue. However, I would request you to install the latest display driver version 169.21 by following the instructions described below." WTF? How can it not be a known issue? My ticket has been in their box for well over a week, so they should know about it from my ticket. I have sent them links to the forums where every one talking about
You know for all the problems we are having, they should give every one who bought this game the CD download as an option. Tonight was the first night since I bought the game where I did not freeze or go black. I get a lot of flickering of the HUD displays, but the background, planets and ships remain fine. I haven't even ventured into playing online multiplayer... figure I will just tinker around in single player until graphic glitches are fixed. As much as I complain, it'
Here's my email to Nvidia as they haven't felt it necessary to email me over the last week... I have yet to hear back from anyone. Looking at the Attach Additional Documents to Question, I see my DxDiag.txt is there twice, once from the first email, again from the second, along with my msinfo.nfo. I have provided you with all the details you have asked for. The IronClad / StarDock devs say that they contacted Nvidia numerous times about the blinking, flashing, freezing and cr
Apparently it was around during the beta and no one informed Nvidia that there was an issue. Actually we did - for about 7+ months - and were put on the backburner. Until the day we shipped and then finally we got noticed.
My bad then! Just can't help but to be sarcastic when my game freezes and crashes every 10 minutes. I will keep bugging Nvidia... they haven't replied to my last email where I uploaded them my dxdiag and msinfo as they asked for
It's amazing how wide spread this is and the only thing I have heard from the devs is that it's a video driver issue and up to Nvidia to fix. Apparently it was around during the beta and no one informed Nvidia that there was an issue. I am a pretty patient person but having the game pause like once every 10 minutes gets old real freaking quick and almost makes the game unplayable. Personally if I was in charge of releasing this game, I would have held off until it was ready
WOW... so much for this being a Nvidia driver problem!
well in the short time that I have disabled bloom effects, I have had far more trouble. way more freezing including 2 mini dumps. feels like every other minute I am cussing my monitor.
I've just had 2 mini dumps on a game I have been playing for 7 hours. Thank god for autosave! Do they want or need the mini dumps? These two crashes happened almost the exact same time as the novalith gun fired. Both times I was watching it fire when it went to black. Didn't start this until I set the novalith to autocast firing. It was similar to the freeze in that it would well ya know, freeze :p then go black, switch back to the game but still frozen, music is playing, b
I don't have any problems with COD4, Crysis, Battlefied 2 / BF2142, QuakeWars or Bioshock. Those are the only games I have installed on Vista64 at the moment and they all work like a champ. I disabled the bloom effect as listed here and while I may not freeze for 10 seconds, I get lots of screen flashes which isn't as annoying, but still pretty frustrating. The devs have put the blame on Nvidia and I can buy that, but surely when testing, someone must have been noticed this as
I'm not bluescreening... I'm just getting that freaking long pause and it's increased far more since I went to the 169 drivers over the 163. No word yet from Nvidia after I sent them my specs and a detailed description of the problem. But shouldn't this have been figured out in the beta phase? I've never understood how stuff like this makes it into final release. 9 freezes in just over an hour and a half... I'm about ready to chunk this game into the garbage disposal.
Vista64 Home Premium - AMD X2 6000 - 8gb ram - 7950gx2 Only thing that happens to me is every now and then the game will freeze for 5 - 10 seconds, screen will flickr black once and go back into game like nothing happened. When it runs, it's smooth and sweet. It's the only game I have had any problems with in Vista and as 2 of the developers have already stated, it's a driver problem and should be in Nvidia's court now to fix. TF2 runs like a champ on my system. Neve
Yarlen, I put in a ticket yesterday with Nvida. I got a reply back from them: > Thank you for contacting NVIDIA Customer Care. > > I understand that you are experiencing crashes while playing a game called > Sins of a Solar Empire, with GeForce 8600 graphics card, any display driver > other than display driver version 97.xx. > > The issue you are experiencing does not seem to be a known issue with the > latest display driver. However, please let me know
ChairmanOfAwesome First off, great name... second, no, that patch does not solve the freezing issue. I've had it installed since October and I've been getting the freezing glitch since the day I install this game. I will try Frogboy's suggestion, but that seems sort of odd if you ask me. He has a Quadro card and has to tone down his settings. No offense Frog, but you got that Stardock by your name, are you a dev? If so, wouldn't you guys be working on a way to fix this inst
Nothing in the Nvidia knowledge base yet about this, but I went ahead and submitted a ticket with them. So the game devs know about this issue?
Vista64 with 8gb of ram, AMD X2 6000 and a 7950gx2... only problem I have is it freezes from time to time. No crash yet, so I am considering myself lucky. I can already tell right now that this has much better support than games from EA! I'm a huge FPS fan so I tend to stick with games like BF2/2142, COD4 and Crysis. EA/Dice is horrible with the BF series. At least here the developers talk to you :)
Surely this is something that needs to be addressed in the game. Reverting back to old drivers isn't the way to resolve the problem. Granted if it works, it works, but the new drivers are optimized for better performance in newer games. Do I really want to lose that when it comes to Crysis because Sins of a Solar Empire randomly freezes? I think IronClad/StarDock needs to address this either internally or with Nvida. If the entire 7x line of Nvidia cards are having this pr
Same problem with me, I will need to double check my Nvidia drivers when I get home, but I have a 7950GX2 on Vista64. Exactly the same symptoms, game freezes for 5 - 10 seconds, followed by screen flashing black and then back into game like nothing ever happened. I know I have the Virtual Address Space patch from Microsoft installed because I was having a lot of problems with games.
