One thing I dont really get though, is why a ship in orbit around a star would be able to get antimatter? The only time I have known of a star to create antimatter is if is of a certain massive size when it went supernova. Enough energy was shooting out of the explosion of the star that antimatter formed which then met matter and exploded and caused the supernova to be around 10 times brighter. But a stable star does not emit antimatter and if it did, the antimatter would make contact with solar

I was not saying that bases around a star would be more powerful in terms of offence, just better equipped for defense since they have to have better equipment to deal with the different environment that they are in. As for cost, I'm all for having the cost be more then average considering all the obvious costs that would be needed to set up the said bases. But I do say that they should give you the ability to build bases around a star even if none of your "intelligent" commanders would build th
You should be able to build platforms around stars for the simple reason that it really isnt all that much harder to do then it is around a planet. Sure you'll need better cooling, shielding, and stationkeeping systems then normal, but that could simply serve to actually make these platforms more powerful against an attack. For that supposed reason that it would be too expensive to ship all the materials out to the star I simply have to point out that in the real world if the military could find
I was wondering, if you preorder the game and you select the Download + CD one, does that mean you can download the beta and they will send you a CD of it as well?
Hmm perhaps maybe there could be something like the Ring from Ringworld (by Larry Niven) around the stars (though alot closer then the one in the book) that you could build and it would basically count as a few worlds. The reason why it would count as a few worlds was that in the larger Ring from the books (the diameter of the ring was the entire orbit of Earth basically) the total space on the ring was a the equivalent to a few million Earth's. And maybe if some super structure like the Ring wa
*nods* As I said that formula was an oversimplified way of representing the fact of speed/mass energy requirements. The book was part of the series Voyage Through The Universe. The book was called Starbound. And upon rereading of the specific part it seems I misread it and there was a limit on fuel and therefor that is what the speeds were. My mistake. Will delete that part from the post to make it accurate. By the way what exactly does each part of that formula Ek=1/2m(v^2) stand for, I think
One thing I have noticed around here is that people don't totally understand how things move in space. So I will put out a few things that I know of about space (if any of these are wrong please let me know). Size : Depending on the mass of the ship and the power output of the engines you can technically make your ship however large you want. For example you can have a ship a thousand miles in diameter that is simply a large empty balloon, and as long as the mass of the ship is lo
Maybe as further incentives to attacking a particular person you could have more then just money on the bounty. Perhaps a ship of yours, or maybe the equivalent of technology. For example say your guy uses some sort of kinetic weapons and the other guy uses lasers. You could put your kinetic weapons level 5 tech up and if the one guy gets the bounty then he now has laser weapons level 5 tech. (that is an example based on the fact that I have no knowledge of how the tech works in the game).
Heh, or you could get into a standoff where you each have ships around each other's planets. Then you have a MAD (Mutual Assured Destruction) situation like in the cold war. The momment one of you declares war, each of your groups fleets destroy's the other's planets. You both lose. Heh, in a book series I read (The Bolo books) there was a situation where humans and these other aliens fought each other and the war ended when each race had 1 planet left and sent every ship they had to de
Maybe they should have some sort of system set up so that if you are simply at peace or treaty (not sure what the difference is because I havent played yet) then you can backstab if you want, but if you are in an alliance then you are not allowed to un-ally until all of your ships have moved away from their space. Or perhaps before they can make war on you they first un-ally but go to a treaty/peace level and have to wait a bit before they can declare war, this way you would have some warning. I
I have gotten set up so that I can get the Beta 2 when it comes out, but I am curious of how exactly will I know when it comes out? What I mean is, if it came out on May 8th how will I know? Will an email be sent out to people who can DL or a post made in the forums? The last thing I want to do is miss the download. Has the date for the Beta 2 been posted yet? I read on another thread somewhere that the Beta 2 was comming out in May but I dont know if this is true or not. Help anyone?
Another static defense that was used was essentially a stationary platform with a very large laser or particle cannon on it, these things had the ability to recharge, but given the size of the cannon on it, they usually were destroyed before they could get out more then 2 or 3 salvos.
The whole purpose of the system is basically to allow a person to throw out a wave of missiles before his actual fleet comes through the lane. This way any defenses or ships that are near the lane can have taken some damage or have been destroyed. The reason for there being no shields or armor is because the pods are expendable. In the book any pods that happened to have survived after the battle would have been picked up and refitted, but generally that was just so they could have a few extra f
There is always a way to balance something. All you have to do probably would make it so they couldnt launch too many missiles and were semi expensive to build. The pods themselves in the book were one shot things and needed a few seconds after the jump to launch because the jumps would mess with the comps since there was little to no hardening on the computers. You could probably put a delay into the pods so that after they jump they sit there and do nothing for 10-20 seconds which means any de
A while ago I had read a book where there were these things that were similar to the Phase Lanes. I had read a post somewhere on here that was saying something about how you can block someone from attacking you by building enough defenses near the exit of the Phase Lanes. In the book that I had read they faced a similar problem, so they came up with these pods that had small jump drives that would allow them to go through their version of the Phase Lanes and then they would fire all their missil
