With the willingness of the community and of developers to participate in discussion around the game, it seems like a no-brainer to not just advertise and sponsor podcasts, but to produce a Sins Official Podcast. It doesn't have to be fancy, maybe even a group of dedicated players from the forums could host it, and get various devs / other players to drop in via skype once a week or so to talk about the game for a half hour. Topics could include Sins news, strategy/balance issues, tips

The mouse hover over the research button will show you the research that's queued up, and that's great, but I agree that it would be nice to see your queue on the research screen. If you're taking time away from the main game interface to look at a large window like that, it should provide you with as much information as possible about the decisions you're making in there. With the size of the window being what it is, some clever designer should be able to fit the queue in there in an efficient
I don't think it was an issue with the "go to war" countdown - my fleets were auto-attacking enemy ships - just not the orbital structures. I will double check the timer though.
Same here - last night my fleets were not auto-attacking an ex-ally's orbital structures - it was a real pain to go in and explicitly direct attacks against all the individual structures (they wouldn't even attack hanger defenses - just stood around and got pounded on by the bombers). I was in the same situation as Mors - I had won with my AI ally and selected "continue playing" to go back in and finish them off.
I am seeing a similar scroll bar bug - updated to 1.02. For me, it only occurs while the game is paused. Using the scroll wheel to scroll the empire tree while the game is paused causes items to disappear rather than scroll. A quick unpause / repause refreshes the empire tree. After unpausing, the tree works fine for me. I'll try to get a screen shot. Win XP fully patched Pentium 4 3.0G 2G Ram ATI X1950 Pro running at 1200x1024
That's a problem I was having the other night (mass carrier spam) - any suggestions as to how many flaks per carrier is a good rule of thumb for countering those large fleets (the AI was sending about 70 carriers with 60-70 light frigates for support) - also how about the usefulness of LRMs in that situation. I way underestimated and was cut to ribbons in pretty short order.
Great idea - I love the concept of the fleet as a kind of meta-ship and naming them would make them easier to use.
Sounds like they've got you pretty pinned down - may be time for some higher risk ideas - Try sending some smaller strike forces deep into their empire (siege frigates) to disrupt their economy and force them to move their fleets away from the front? Give some ground on one side of your empire in order to push on the other front to shake things up? As it stands, it sounds like rushing back and forth with one capable fleet is just going to result in them wearing you down and eventually breaking t
In the latest GFW Radio Podcast (the podcast from the editors of Games for Windows Magazine) they discuss Sins for about 20 min. It's more of a discussion of first impressions of the final version than a review but it's interesting and very positive. Link: http://www.1up.com/do/feature?cId=3148397
There's a PDF of the manual in the program folder where sins was installed. For me it's in Program Files\Stardock\TotalGaming\Sins of a Solar Empire. You could also just search for a 30.5 MB PDF called "Manual". They should really put a shortcut to it in the start menu folder.
The most recent episode of the GFW Radio Podcast (Podcast from the editors of Games for Windows Magazine) is out, and they spend about 20 minutes talking about Sins. It's not a real review, because they're still getting into the game but the discussion is interesting and very positive. It's interesting to hear the first impressions from experienced games journalists who have a lot of experience with this type of game.
Is there any way to transfer an installation of the downloaded version to another computer? (To avoid hitting the servers twice to get it on my laptop and desktop?)
80 pages (give or take). Out of curiosity, why do you ask?
