Guardian Wolf? Really? Let's see... Long tail, large ears, narrow pointed snout, dark markings on legs and tip of tail, not to mention a white/pastel color scheme that matches at least one person's depiction of a myobu kitsune . Really not seeing a wolf here, but that's what it says. I think I may have found a taxonomy bug. Good jo

"While searching the game preview, you come across a screenshot that will provide +1 to Avatar." [e digicons][/e] Anyway... I've never played HoMM or MoM, but this game looks really good. Tactical battles are nice, multiplayer is something I'm really missing in GalCiv, and I like the sound of this 'streaming mods to all the players' thing. I wonder how hard it will be to make new units and such? Interesting art style, too; kind of a pseudo-cell shading

Found the problem, please delete previous posts. Okay, looks like there's no "preview post" button, none of the imageshack links work, and now I can't edit anymore. Wonderful. Let me see if I can maybe get some pictures to show up. If this ends up creating several posts, well, I would have used the preview button if I had one... EDIT: Well, I don't know what's wrong with it. I've tried all the thumbnail codes, even rehosted the picture and typed the code in manually, but it still won't work. Any ideas? Oh, and feel free to d

Lots of interesting discussions in this thread. I'm actually searching for work right now, but I'm probably not what Stardock is looking for. I'm actually in a similar situation to Lost_WLD as far as programming goes; I've got my copy of C++ For Dummies which I've been banging my head against for months, but somehow it's just not sinking in. I'm beginning to think it's the book's fault, because I know I'm capable of understanding programming. I did some Visual Basic in high school, pr

I've been itching to get some real burning and pillaging going on, so I've decided to try playing as Drengin. I started a few really promising games, but I'm having some real difficulties so far, probably due to my very un-Drengin-like tendency to get distracted by lots of shiny non-military techs. This has often led to not having much of a military when the AI suddenly decides it doesn't like giving me money listening to my witty banter any

I believe domed cities would be impractical for many reasons. Firstly, the dome would act as a greenhouse and trap large amounts of heat. Air conditioning would be needed to keep the dome livable for most of the year, and that would use enormous amounts of energy. Generating all that extra energy would likely produce lots of extra pollution. Secondly, the outside of the dome is going to get awfully dirty. That means you'll either need an army of window washers to keep it trans
Wrong game, but I remember one of the Neverwinter Night 2 devs being shocked when his character was beaten to death by a door. They are set to faction hostile you see, and somehow this one had acquired special abilities.Funny, but not as epic as the assassination of Lord British!
Funny, definitely. However, I must say that the most epic game bug of all time has to be the "Tool Shed of Doom". For those of you not familiar with the Tool Shed of Doom, it is a

It looks like Penny Arcade did a comic on this subject, and the accompanying news post is interesting. Especially this bit at the end:
I okayed ads for Mass Effect on there PC because I liked the game, and thought that - free of the resolution and storage restraints - it could be substantially better than its console counterpart. I wasn't aware of this mechanism at the time, and there's no way I could have been. I apologize. I still endorse the experience they've chosen to bind u
Everyone knows that those guys will bring the activation servers down in three-four years, especially if they stop making money from sales. Essentially, you would be buying a game that would disappear from your computer at some point of time.
Anyone remember Earth & Beyond? It was a nice-looking sci-fi MMORPG that EA published several years ago. It had about 22,000 subscribers according to Wikipedia, which is moderately successful as far as western MMOG's go. Anyway, back

It really surprises me that so many companies are so intent at viewing piracy as a legal, or even military, challenge, that they never think to view it as an economic challenge. They're all so busy fighting the good fight that they ignore the obvious truth of the situation: Pirates are competitors. You can't stop them, they're not going away, so we all just need to learn how to work around them. The best way to achieve this is to make purchasing the legit copy of the game
Also, has it dawned on you that galcivs sold a ton of games because its good? Not because it had minimal to no anti piracy in it?
I would just like to point out that I, in fact, did purchase GalCiv2 because it has no anti-piracy in it. The only reason I ever heard about this place was because StarForce decided to throw a tantrum and posted links to GalCiv warez after Stardock rejected their DRM scheme. I read about it on Slashdot, then followed the links to thi

This game sure looks interesting, but I haven't had this much trouble with camera control since I played the Homeworld 2 demo. Things don't seem to stay centered on the screen, and it takes forever to find the right combination of rotate/drag/zoom to get the view you want. I think I spent more time finding my ships than actually flying them. So what's the trick this time? Gal Civ 2 has the click-drag thing instead of edge scrolling, which made me think the game was crap until I searche

There are two main reasons why active plate tectonics is essential to having an earth-like planet. Firstly, as has already been mentioned, it circulates materials that are important to life but aren't otherwise present in the crust. Potassium, for example, is critical to nerve and muscle function, but it settles deep in the mantle during planet formation. Plate tectonics is necessary to churn up the planetary interior and bring the potassium (and lots of other important elements) to th
