You're right- I went back and looked at the game I was in and I was up against both in the same battle. Nasty combination.

I've been playing Sins for about six months (I've had it for longer, but real-time play is probably about that), and one thing I can't seem to figure out is - what exactly do you have to do to defeat each enemy? I just finished a 4-way game (Tempest map) against three AI opponents - the last of which was an Advent. In order to defeat them, I had to hunt down and destroy each and every one of their colony worlds, along with all of their military vessels. In previous AI games, I
Play the TEC to begin with- they have a good balance of ship costs to technology. Advent ships are cheaper but less powerful, and the Vasari are expensive. Ensure you have a good supply of crystal. Build a colonization cap ship first and use it to grab an asteroid or two (depending on the map) to get those resources in. Modifying Cataclysm's advice, research weaponry first. No point going into a fight without at least an upgrade to your primary weapon system. Besides, you need
The other thing to watch out for is going up against Advent opponents with cap ships, particularly Radiance battlecruisers, that can disable abilities and phase jump... they can really spoil your day if you're outnumbered and trying to run home.
The other thing I have found is that a re-mapping isn't permanent - I have to re-map the keystroke not only each new game I play, but if I reload a saved game.
Thanks - I remapped the print screen to Ctrl-P and now it works properly (messages and all).
Apologies in advance for what's probably a very simple question, but I have been beating my head against the wall trying to get screen shots to work. I had what I thought were a few nice ones (taken by hitting PrtScr), but they don't seem to be where the game thinks they should be. According to the technical FAQ, user files on Vista systems are stored in C:\Users\ username \AppData\Local\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire. However, when I navig
So if you are playing a 3-player game (1 human vs. 2 AI) and you get to the point of being allied with one of the AIs, and you defeat the opponent, you simultaneously get the victory screen and the voice-overs from the allied AI re: "Sorry, this no longer works for us." However, I've found that if you choose to continue the game, you're still allied to the other AI. Do I actually have to take the step of breaking the alliance (even though it sounded like the other AI was doing it)?
Adding to the last post, a mixed force of fighters and bombers (1:2 ratio) is the best place, IMO, to put your tactical points, along with a repair platform or two and a phase jump inhibitor. The fighters help offset any enemy bombers in an assault, whereas the bombers can effectively harass heavier frigates and caps.
I find that you need to decide which of the AIs' quests you're going to accept. That is, if you've got two opposing AIs, and each of them keeps giving you quests to destroy structures or ships belonging to the other, pretty soon you're going to stretch yourself too thin. Pick one of them and concentrate on fulfilling quests for that player, so you can build up a relationship that will evolve into trade alliances, cease-fires and maybe peace treaties.
Has anyone created a research tree map for Sins? As a new player, I find myself struggling to understand the implications and requirements of the various choices - and then there are times, such as when I want to increase fleet capacity and am told it requires research into Telepathic Signalling, when that technology simply doesn't appear to exist in my research trees- either in those available or those I have to do further research to get. Aside from tutorials, which are tedious
