If you know how to use a computer, all you need is a router, and/or a software firewall. I have run my PC for 5 years and never had a virus. In fact I have never had a problem caused by malware before. I have however had multiple problems ALL of which come directly from Norton "Anti" virus. Case in point, The game this forum is about, was being silently blocked by Norton anti-virus despite me having given it specific instructions to allow it to access the internet. Not to mention Norto

https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/304319
I tested this in game quite a long time ago (1.02) by casting malice on a moving fleet and then cleasing brilliance on a ship under malice effect, and the capital which was also under the effect of malice took no damage at all. (Yes, I only took my progenitor and radiance and charged into 30 ships to test this)
Flat wrong. One only has to look at the screens in https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/304319 to see why, specifically t

First of all Brilliance does 250 damage per second and has an 8 second duration, not 250 damage total. Secondly it has a narrow AOE along the beam which may or may not propagate with malice, I have no idea, easy to test though. Think of it like this, most ships have a total shield and hull HP less than 1000, when 25% of 2000 total damage comes their way (500 damage) it hurts a whole lot, when another round of 500 damage comes their way, plus the normal damage your other ships in the f

My only problem with embargo is that it stacks, somehow I dont think this is working as intended. If you have level 1 embargo you can still steal up to 100% of the planets income by being in the same gravity well long enough (A rather protracted period I must admit.) As has been said any capship with a antimatter damage ability will make embargo impossible, for obvious reasons.

Anyone know for sure whether or not malice will propagate martyrdom damage? If so, that could become a very, very, powerful fleet tactic. IE 4000 credits kills anything sub capship level caught in the aura

Hmm, maybe, you know, you should have looked at the reviews, rather than just looking at the score, and seen that this game isn't designed with your tastes in mind? Maybe? I mean, I haven't read a single review that doesn't say the games take a long time. Its not exactly a secret. Also you can move in the Z axis, although there isn't much point usually.
There was (is?) a game called Allegiance. An interesting project, blending RTS and FPS in an extremely excellent way. The game had the potential to be amazing. It's been 'dead' for a while, with a somewhat large group of competitive players 'keeping it alive'. I joined to play it, and every game was the same way. One team would 'tech rush' to a Frigate or something and roll into your system 5 minutes later and blow up all your stuff. Whoever got this ship first won. Every time. Nothing ch

Another solution would be to increase the starting price of crystal on the black market and have it slowly decay. It would screw this particular opening strategy, but would alleviate the problem it poses, and there are no doubt other opening build orders that don't give a huge disadvantage to the person who is unlucky enough to have a slow computer or hasn't set up a AutoHotkey script. I have, btw set up an autohotkey script for this, although I think it would be dishonorable to use it. You can

I just noticed that a few of the info cards for the various research techs are kind of vague. A good example would be the pervasive economy tech, the info card says "Your income earns a fraction of the cost of all other empires expenditures, whenever purchases are made." Ok that sounds pretty clear to me, but when you add that it has "Trade to credit conversion" and "Sale to credit conversion" it muddies the waters somewhat (In my opinion) and makes it seem like it only applie

OK, I really think we need a way to switch hosts, and or drop players that are freezing the game. What I would really like is if we could have some dedicated servers for big games, as in every big game I've played, the game has frozen before we've had our big confrontation.

Considering that the crystal and metal resources extracted from a rock are now infinite, it seems insane to have the "Waithawkeyedforthebuttontochangetherightcolor" System. However I am completely sympathetic that at this stage of development it's probably infeasible to overhaul the resource system, although I do think its a massive shame. Perhaps someone might be able to mod it in, although it probably would be a hard ask.

If you decrease the efficiency of the enemy fighters to such a degree that they do less total damage to you, even though they have a few more ships than you do from the initial round of focus fire, you will win in the long term. Their-by discouraging focus fire. Of course this would scale. It would be more efficient to focus-fire on smaller fleets for example, because you will have less time to destroy subsystems etc. And don't say people focus fire extensively in real com

IMO the only real option to do it is to make the usual battlefields much bigger than weapon ranges. Actually, a better way In my opinion is to have systems damages, that mean as a ship becomes more damaged it becomes less able to deal out damage. Simply make the reduction of damage high enough that the loss of fire-power from receiving damage on all of your ships is greater than loosing ships due to focus fire. The only reason focus f

Dune definitely is my favourite, read part of the first foundation novel but couldn't get into it. Hitch-hikers guide is hilarious and I love Douglas Adams. More recently I've got into Alastair Reynolds stuff, I just love his universes.

Really for me the pirates are only annoying early game, If the pirates were to do a focused attack through my early planetary expansion, I wouldn't be able to stop them, as they have better ships than you do, in larger numbers. Luckily they don't tend to do that. What I think would be great is if the bounty effected the pirate behaviour more than it does now. IE. If a pirate fleet turns up in your system and you have 0 on your head, then you dump 1000 on another guy, they should just

Awesome. It's really nice to get such a speedy reply. I guess its just the AI's poor placement that causes this problem with gauss turrets in the first place, gauss turrets shouldn't really be used like the auto-build uses them, but to defend actual structures/the planet itself. Then destroying them would become an actual necessity rather than an option. As for the defending thing thanks for tel

The only issue I really have is that players would end up asking "Why cant these ships just fly out the sector?", and only bad games/movies have you asking "Why doesn't the main character just..." The fact is I rarely use defensive structures at all, and I have a defensive fleet at all the planets on my front line, and later on when they enemy has researched insurgency some in my back lines as w

Hi well anyway I'm one of those newbies who made a very general post that quietly died and decided to make a more specific one. Anyway to get the ball rolling, some of the attack priorities are a little odd right now, for example flak frigates especially wont attack enemy fighters/bombers first off they tend to attack whatever the rest of the fleet is attacking. A great boon for unit control would be if you were able to order units to defend each other, IE follow as close as po

OK I've been playing the game for a little while and I have some ideas/impressons, that while they aren't strictly necessary would be nice to have (In my eyes anyway) 1. An auto-scout option for the scouts, this would make early game a lot less painful for me as I hate having to say "Now DON'T ATTACK THAT GROUP OF 15 PIRATES YOU STUPID DAMN IDIOT SCOUT ZOOM OFF TO THE NEXT PLANET DAMMIT!" Yeah, I seem to loose allot of scouts that way. Maybe you set it on auto scout and set it in a ge
