Rule: -You always notice when an opponent refuses to fight with you, since they know you'll win -You never notice when you're the guy fleeing in number1, and don't care. You want to win or survive as long as possible. Eh?

I kind of wish battles were a bit more tactiable; ships take more damage from the rear than from the front. Same with sides (but not as much).

I think (it's been a long time since I've checked the files) that there's a value for deacceleration of a ship. AKA: Setting it to zero would make the ship constantly move (however, this would likely bug up hyper spacing)

To your second point: Actually, I tried a small test out with light frigates. I basically made a 'fighter' use the colbult model and slowed the speed down. The battles actually looked kind of interesting now. Nothing amazing and they dragged on (Ship would go by too fast, try to turn around while the other frigate does the same)

(correct me if I'm wrong) Spec textures add the 'shiny' value to planets, telling them where to be shiny. Bump mapping makes the object look more complex than it really is; such as 2-d mountains looking 3-d from a distance

Nah, I was just trolling. Since the game has no copy protection, there shouldn't be an y problems. I know for me, no pictures are ever made when I take them.

The devs tried to make this game playable on as many PCs as possible. So making the calculations on how to make battles more 'tactiful' would increase microing and processor requirements. Both bad.
