Right, I tried that too. As of right now, you can only get rid of it in Windows 8 the way I show up top, with SKS7.
I have a clue to give about that shutdown text. When I make a skin, I usually create a new font in SKS, and turn down the alpha to make it invisible, and use that when I don't want the text to show there. When Jim tested my latest skin, he told me about the text showing in Windows8. I had to get creative to get rid of it. I ave not upgraded yet to the new versions of WB and SKS. The left side is called the Navigation Pane, and the right side is called the Preview Pane. You can only change the Navigation Pane color. You can find that setting here: Edit Explorer & IE Shell Parts/ Edit Vista & 7 Explorer Parts/ Folders Bar/Extra Settings Tab. Choose your color. You must have an image in the folders bar for this setting to work. I have not found a way to change the Preview Pane background color, which is why I always have it hidden.

FYI: The last time Mitch sent me the blind, it looked like this on my machine, and looked messed up like his screenshot on his PC. The start menu parts were cut correctly.

Mike, that is something you can change at Joe User. Just go to the 'My Account' tab and change the info for your website. It looks like you have that in there already though. If you change it, it might take a few minutes to take effect.
