I’ve tried real hard to find where and when President Carter received a PhD in Nuclear Physics. In every bio of him I’ve read so far none have mentioned it. In fact, the only PhD’s that were awarded to him that I can find have ‘honoris causa’ next to them. For those that can’t read Latin that means they were honorary degrees, and they were awarded after his presidency. So how does that make him a nuclear physicist during his presidency? What's even more confusing to me is what this all h

Acccording to the bio I read on President Carter, He only received a Bachelor of Science degree from the naval academy. He resiegn from service before completing the Navy Nuclear Program, becuase of his fathers death '53. This hardly makes him a Nuclear Physist which would require a PhD.

Anybody else find the Waypoint movements to be clunky. I tried to waypoint an orbit around a planet with a group of frigates. Each time they came to a waypoint they would stop, turn and continue. I would like to see them make the arc turn without stopping. Does anybody agree? Is this already in the works?

Ta_erog, Seeing you are obviously a naval history buff. I found a website you might be interested in. it gives a brief summary of some capital ship engagements in WWII. http://www.militaryhistoryonline.com/wwii/articles/capitalshipsurfaceactions.aspx

I do not mean to be argumentative, but I do not have the fascination that allot of people have with BB’s as most people do. I have always been more interested in History, Naval battles as a whole, the roles of tech, tactics, personal, environment, and numbers had to play in the battles. . . . I think we could be friends. Believe it or not I think we agree more than we disagree. Besides Arguments are the meat and potatoes of conversation. What fun w

OK Ta_erog the Hood was a battlecruiser so I didn't realized that you only wanted BB sunk by BB. sorry. you maybe right. but, what does this have to do with weather Cap ships should be researched or not? I don't have oodles of time to research every aspect of every ship ever made. I lived the navy life, I was on the USS Fox from Nov89 til Apr94. I'm proud of my first hand knowledge of her. I Know I'd like Cap ships to be in the research tree. Although having it as a selectable pre-game

As soon as aircraft where used as a navel stand off weapon BB where on there way out. This is quoted from a web site on the USS Jew Jersey. http://www.multied.com/Navy/battle/NJ.html "The Japanese response to the Marianas operation was an order to its Mobile Fleet, it must attack and annihilate the American invasion force. Shadowing American submarines tracked the Japanese fleet into the Philippine Sea as Admiral 8pruanee joined his task fo

HMS Hood . . . ok then name another? or name when a fleet of BB's clashed? USS Houston (CA-30) sunk by gunfire and torpedoes of Japanese warships in Sunda Strait, Netherlands East Indies, 1 March 1942. USS Quincy (CA-39) sunk by gunfire and torpedoes of Japanese warships off Savo, Solomon Islands, 9 August 1942 USS Cushing (DD-376) sunk by gunfire from Japanese warships off Savo, Solomon Islands, 13 November 1942. If people want large battleships with massive guns slugging it out they are thinking WWI/WWII (even though in WWII this did not happen) Didn't Happen? Tell that to the HMS Hood. The BB refit did not include the Aegis system, and mostly added tomahawk, harpoon and defensive Phalanx systems. They where tasked as mainly bombardment ships . . 16 inch artillery and tomahawk. With harpoon to defend from ship threats and Phalanx

OK yes I just read JANES on the subject. unclassified. http://www.janes.com/defence/naval_forces/news/misc/aegis010425.shtml It is 100+ targets. I correct myself again. The Upgrades made to the BB's and the Fox were not actually Aegis. Due to the fully integrated nature of the Aegis system required the actual Aegis ships to be build from the hull up. But they WERE upgraded and modernized. And I stand down from the actual reason behind the reclassification. Although the Fo

Ta_erog, are you a fellow squid? ET2(esws wannabe) ‘89 to ‘94 ---- OK I’m going to correct myself I indicated that there were some battleships were not decommissioned after WWII, I was wrong, I forgot the Navy had decom’d all BB’s during the late 50’s early 60’s. However, in the 80’s some WERE brought back into service, and WERE refitted and modernized with among many other things the Aegis Weapons Combat System. Why, because they were needed. USS Ticonderoga was the first to have Aegi

Call me crazy too… I agree with ShadowDragon, Capitol ships should be the most powerful, most expensive and hardest to get ships in the game. Omega, yes the USS Ticonderoga class Aegis cruiser did come out much after the WWII Battleships like the USS Missouri and USS Iowa, but the navy also had cruisers, destroyers, and frigates during WWII. The battleship was the most powerful surface ship on the seas in WWII. (Not counting the carriers, because it was the planes that did the fight

Lurker, I’m happy for you that you like the ‘original idea’ I like the concept of the ‘loyalty challenge’ as well; I just think it needs tweaking. I think you are wrong (not to mention a bit insulting to your fellow beta testers) to say any of the ideas put forth on this thread are at all crude or not thought out well enough in some way. I personally think ShadowDragon’s idea is a good one as well, as is the developers ‘original idea’. I know that I personally spent some time develop

ZimatDeltaHalo Sorry, Yes, I was referring to the culture lines when I said propaganda. However, Culture influence is part of the game, and I think if a colony is receiving culture from another race it should affect its loyalty. But not necessarily over impact its production, or to automatically make it switch sides. I also don’t like the idea of a planet previously bomb into non existence receiving so much culture that it instantly flip to an enemy colony as soon as you pl

I agree the loyalty factor is way to strong. So I suggest the devs do what real governments do and complicate things. Loyalty(%)- Base value set by race Effected by: distance, ‘state of the empire’, and propaganda. Effects: Odds of switching empires, Odds of Rebellion, and Planet Morale Planet Morale(%)- Base Value set by race. Effected by: Loyalty, Environment (I live on an asteroid, this sucks), Tax Level, and security (wow the pink team attacked us thr

Wow a heated debate over a minor detail of terminology. It seems to me that the terms capital ship, cruiser, frigate, etc as it relates to a class of ships, should more indicate the hull size and maneuverability of the vessels in question rather than the roles they play. The vessel designation or name should indicate their role. A command cruiser is a support vessel that boosts the offensive capabilities of the combat vessels in the fleet. Support vessels typically have little to no

Sins I likey list 1) Scale and Graphics are great 2) Seamless zoom 3) The idea of a massive empire and epics size universe to conquer 4) I like the starting options, being able to choose your opponents as well as color and symbols. (Do different player slot translate to different starting positions?) (another win option could be; destroy or timed blockade of enemy capital planet with locked capitals) 5) Stability, I have the graphics options maxed with very little lag e
