I agree. I really do enjoy this game, but I would like to see a lot more 4x features. In future patches, an emphasis deffinitely needs to be placed on diplomacy. It would be nice to start off neutral with each race, or have relations be dependent on race. That way it's not just open warfare. You will actually have to tick off your neighbors before they attack you. I would also like to see a vastly more extensive tech tree. You can research everything on the tree far too fast if you put en

Personally I don't see why there needs to be a story for this mod. Just add a bunch of cool races that are balanced and fun to play and let us make our own history. It doesn't need to follow actual events. I'm pretty sure that's why there is no campaign in Sins, it just doesn't fit in this kind of game. Each player has their individual experience with it. But I think the more factions the better. It adds diversity and leads to the unexpected.
this would be pretty awesome. As for the Stargate mod, that would be a bit of problem since you don't really have many factions. The only space farring races with attack vessels are the Asgard, Go'uld, and the Wraith. Earth only has a couple ships, and Atlantis has jumpers... You would have to make up a lot in order to make that work in this case. But Star Trek was all about space battles, it should work quite nicely here. I'll be looking forward to this one.
During the Gundam SEED universe there were also fleets of ships. You have to watch a bit closer, but the big ones were the Archangel and the one hunting it during the first season. Then the second season had an upgraded Archangel as the main ship. But there were various smaller ones. The smaller, mass-produced mobile suits could be used as cruisers, while the more powerful ones specific to the different factions could be used as capital ships. One major issue that would need to be resolved
