I just copied my game folder to a friend to play this over a LAN and now neither of us have any sound. Decreasing hardware acceleration ( as explained here ) doesn't resolve the issue. Is this because we have the same 'version'? Or is there some other issue? I'm running the 1.05 version. Any help would be greatly appreciated
[quote]SO! if you want the most updated version of the game, or you want to play entrenchment, you need to get on the internet, download IE7 or later if you dont already have it[/quote] Not entirely accurate. I do not have IE7 as I'm a Firefox user and everything worked fine. It does warn that it may require IE7 but as far as I used Impulse (updating the game after I had installed it with my CD) it wasn't required at all.
Allright, I decided to add the other method to the end of the existing tutorial. That way it'll be a "complete guide" in and on itself. I also agree that an additional copy elsewhere might be a good idea. Anyone care to mirror this tutorial? :) Also: apparently this isn't sticky-worthy just yet. Shame really...
Danny Basette, would you mind if I added your explanation to the tutorial on my own site? Naturally I'll give props. It might be a good thing to have both explanations in one place :)
They're on the site that the tutorial is hosted at (I placed 2 mirrors there) so I think that's obvious enough :)
There's been plenty of SC2 mods for several games, a bunch of clones and of course the source ports (like UQM) which all exist to this day. Even if they where working on a new Starcontrol title (please God?) they would be in a pretty bad position to make these kind of demands now. So, go ahead I say. I'd play it :)
Updated the tutorial, I made a small error in the registry bit which is now fixed. Also, could this be stickied as an unofficial workaround or something?
I condensed all the information from this thread in an easy to read how-to and posted it [link="https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/?forumid=408&aid=176363"]here[/link].
I wrote a small tutorial on how to get it to work based off what people said on the matter on these forums. The topics over [link="https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/?forumid=408&aid=176363"]here[/link].
Alright, I tinkered with those values some, but I can't get any enhanced performance from it all. Methinks the models still get cached regardless and that's what's putting the strain om my (admittedly, somewhat shabby) video card. I'll admit though, I'm not an ace when it comes to modding stuff like this... Any other pointers would be highly appreciated :)
So I just finished this tutorial on how to install and play the game on Windows 2000. I tried it as I wrote it so out of personal experience this works 100%! Danny Basette - Could you post how your folder structure looks? I had intended to write an 'easy to understand' way to get Sins to work on 2000, but I'm having trouble finding out where goes what. So if you could post how your folder structure looks, that'd be great! Also, where can one find the modified xinput and the faultrep dlls? Edit: Just thought of this, once this works properly, could someone make a script out of it that would automate this process? I'll host it...
All I could think of was repack the installer with an older SDK which still supports Win2K... or someone create a custom script for it... I tried to run the msi with the /a parameter (Admin mode, should get around the check) but all it does is show a lot of disk activity and do very little. Ofcourse, feel free to prove me wrong there :)
So Would I also have to change the model? Or would tweaking this be enough? I'll probably play around with the values some this weekend, see what I can make of things :)
We're talking about 32MB Shared for the video card here. So yeah, pretty low-end :)
I was wondering... I have an actual PC, and a lower end laptop. My PC is in my apartment (duh) and I take my laptop with me whenever I'm somewhere for longer then 24 hours (got to have that gaming ;)) Now my Laptop doesn't run Sins... but only barely. If they didn't stick in all those pretty graphics it'd probably run it (looking at the sys. requirements, the video card is where the bottleneck lies) So I was wondering: Would it be possible to create a "low-end mod" tha
