We do not like DRM, but it is everywhere, are you now going to boycott everything with DRM?
I made the mistake of leaving secuROM on my machine, BIG mistake. I plan on doing my research first, finding out what if any copy protection a game has. Also, since we're on the topic of the tempest that is Spore Creature Creator... For those people, like me, who downloaded and played the Spore Creature Creator Trial version thinking there wouldn't be SecuROM on it... THINK AGAIN. J.M.Pescado over on MATY (more awesome than you) forums reports this about the Spore Creature Creator trial version.
EA has a habit of bad PR. Crippling DRM? Check. Kill games with expansion packs? Check. Release a sequel with only different models and names (think of pretty much all their sprts games)? Check. It's a miracle they've managed to survive for so long, but I guess they do that by buying out the competition. As someone mentioned before, Vote with your wallets. It might not help with the DRM and general crappyness, but maybe they'll run out of money . Imagine that: Waging war with a company wi
I don't fault them for delays. Making games isn't exactly an easy thing to do, so I don't blame them. I do however, hold their feet to the fire with regards to another issue, and that's DRM. But that's straying a bit off topic. It's kinda bittersweet that I like playing with the creature creator, I love the creature creator, but I'm sad that I won't be buying Spore.
For those of you who are concerned about SecuROM's presence on Spore, I located the e-mail to forward your concerns / comments... It's not the actual Maxis employees' e-mail address, but I sent 'em a question regarding SecuROM and got a reply from them. So I'm going to post the e-mail here in hopes that it'll get more people to write in and cite their concerns. Who knows, it may force a change in policy... one can hope, but without trying, all it is, is a pipe dream. e-mail at maxis
While browsing through this I just figured out something... Back in 2005 when Spore was JUST being introduced at GDC 2005, Will Wright was talking about the inevitable rise of production costs of making games. So... instead of having content created for the user, the user creates the content. This led me to thinking.... So the jobs of content creation has essentially been outsourced. Not only that, we have to PAY $10 just for the privilege of creating content, rather than E.
I've been tracking this since BiowarEA announced they'll use that 10 day verification thing. Currently there are quite a NUMBER of users upset with this, not just people who bought Mass Effect, but we're talking people who bought The Sims expansion packs and endured the horrors of SecuROM breaking their CD-writer drives, etc. etc. etc. One particular user by the name of riftguy has already used up all 3 of his activations, and E.A. is giving him a hard time with him and he's ju
So it seems that the wisdom of Heathrow security has deemed Megatron a security risk. No not the real thing, the silkscreen representation of him on a T-shirt. *facedesk* oy...
For those who don't have Wikileaks blocked by their country's ISP, this is of interest. For those who do... http://www.canada.com/topics/technology/science/story.html?id=ae997868-220b-4dae-bf4f-47f6fc96ce5e Essentially ACTA is a trade agreement that is currently being discussed in secret, it's main motive is to stop piracy, by forcing ISPs to fork over user information of suspected pirates, and if you are entering another country, Canadian border guards will have the
Considering there's a thread that's 123 pages long, it's highly unlikely they're trying to quiet people.-HM
Actually that thread was locked, diverted to another thread, then that thread was locked and diverted to a topic regarding just on Mass Effect and SecuROM, which was split into two parts, locked, then diverted again into the "Off Topic" section. Then of course you have the announcement that Mass Effect has gone gold, which again sparked massive amounts of '
Just got off the BioWagon. I did some digging around and found about 7 threads on Bioware's forum (the longest being 123 pages) regarding DRM and SecuROM concerns, all of which were rediverted to new threads, and locked down. The new threads even now are being locked down due to a "10 page limit" on threads. It seems the dogs of war at Bioware are trying to censor some of it's fans in order to Bring Down The Hype, of MEPC going "gold" (see what I did there?).
The Ray Muzyka PCG interview was so full of bullcrap and spin I thought I was in the sphincter of a bovine in a centrifuge. I really... REALLY want to support Will Wright in his endeavour to make the world a better place through his innovative game, but I cannot, will not support Sony DADC in their insane attempts to infiltrate my system in the pursuit of Digital Rights Management. Incidentally, I did some research and found out that DRM systems like SecuROM might actually be v
Well first off I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to both Stardock, and Ironclad Games for not including DRM in their games. In part, this is why I bought your game. I loved how you treated your customers like human beings, not drones easily manipulated by hype. *cough*Halo3*coughcough* I used to be very.. meh, regarding PC games. I will admit, I pirated games like Doom 2 back when it used floppy disks, and Duke Nukem 3D... but then as I grew up, and got to know people
