Did you try the AI "templates": Hard Aggressor - Hard Researcher etc or just Hard Random?. they seem to behave differently or try a game against 9 hard AI's all set on Hard Aggressor the new meaning of "siege frigate raid" ;P. Hard Fortifier template seems to be "broken" however, it's not doing much defenses if it's supposed to. In general i've noticed that sometimes they dont research planetary upgrades or place turrets. Most of the time the "random" chooces "economist" for them they t

mr. burns voice: excellent That's nice then.
AFAIK: trade ships dont use them but dont diss them ;). they're great, you can quickly get your fleets around.
Well marza is rather weak on fleet vs fleet fights, imho. Another dunov, kol or the carrier then replace some of the support cruisers to damage dealing ones. If your enemy was having enough of anti-support ships that would explain why it didnt work out too well. Too many frigates can also hurt more than its worth, if you can use cruisers dont use alot of frigates.
@ Kai Allard: Here's what i do on my vs 9 AI game. I suppose you can force the enemy to flee. I tend to do an counter-attack right after that and cripple them even more (drive them even futher away). If done really quick you could bombard their planet too, that is if your planetary defenses can defend alone for a while, risky tactic but worth it. They wont be back for a while giving you some time to build a secondary fleet at your main planet. "Cat & Mouse" tactic the AI uses is it's g
heck yeah, sometime ago i lost against Advent computer player mind you. Neither of us fired a shot & thus my culture tech (i was vasari i think) was so deep in the tech tree i was done :D. .. humiliating
Im playing a 10 player game as Vasari (102 planets). Without my missile turrets i'd lost the game already. Though i did build a defensive fleet to support them and another attacking fleet that can jump to help out if the enemy doesn't take the hint. Of course thats with full NMA high-grade missiles (full tech). You have to even more balanced about what you build on larger games. Dont build too many towers or too few, back them up with hangars (again balanced number of fighters & bombers
Also with carriers in your fleet you should goto tactics and set them to tight formation so other ships stay within range of the repair/buff.
I like the vasari carriers and the cruiser that can act as one too. a mixture of both fighter types is usually a good idea. Besides Vasari Carrier can repair hull damage so it's generally a very good idea. ;)
As far as turrets go they seem a little weak but Vasari Missile Towers & Full phase missile Tech - these combined probably make the best defense there is for planets ;). Yeah their purpose is to buy time, get your fleet there to help.
Holy cow what battles i've had in just three hours, insane as you probably know already ;). Anyway i'm doing fine now after a rocky start. Fighting my way to north against tec. I guess i was very wrong about Vasari's ships since my half-fleet was able to tank almost two fleets of theirs for very long time before i got bored of it and drove them away. Currently i've blockaded TEC to it's three planets.. :P. He cant get out and doom is coming, since i'm not gonna wait from him to recover. <br/
Yeah have to agree with most replies here ;). the cost is fine and besides when the capital ships start to blow up left & right it hurts enough to replace them with "newbie" crew.
Nice ideas. I'll chip in too. It would be nice if there was an icon on UI for all your aircrafts & bombers. When you zoom into a planet that UI option would turn on. Easier to focus all your aircrafts to a single target, if there is room for one that is.
Yeah that seems logical. I made a costly mistake at one point that lead to my doom, i was a little too slow attacking my neighbors planet with that out of the picture i would have had a change, probably, at least keeping one of the attacking faction happy. Gotta try again today ;) I'm playing as a Vasari though. I might have made some odd decisions for my support ships that might be part of the reason i was losing so badly. Vasari only seems to have two direct support ships that can rep
Has anyone else yet dared to taken on a game like that?. I did and well it was interesting expirience :D. Probably the way it should be except the AI being so touchy when not doing the missions, ehem. A picture how it ended: [link="http://personal.inet.fi/peli/pps/enemy.jpg"]Check it[/link] Wonder if it's necessary to spread faster or focus on 3-4 planets?. Locked teams of course removes the pain of AI forming alliances to take you down but it's part of the game. Would be nice if the pe
For tactics: Advent support ships are cruiser & frigates (forgot the name sorry but maybe someone can fill in) and that shoe (stick?) looking capital ship - they can deny lots of damage. Target them first. You have to build a balanced fleet too. Some capital ships that have high armor & support. If he's know's his stuff he'll use lots of bombers with Advent - you need fighters to counter that. At least he decides to fight, advent can win sometimes without firing a shot
Probably TEC. Kol Battleships just rule, like the mean sound they have. Cant say it's absolutely the number one faction but close to it.
