There are also a number of excellent mods which totally change the game, such as fall from heaven and rhys and fall, which further extend the replayability.

It is in closed beta. The latest patch offered some fairly radical gameplay changes. The FINAL version f the game will be single player with the optional subscription online component. To best test all the features it makes sense to betatest the online planet offer to test the game and the server at the same time.
GPG did something interesting with their standalone expansions which is another possibility to explore. Owners of the stand alone were only able to play the new faction online, and had a small sp campaign with some new units. The advantage was that those who owned just vanilla sup-com can still play with those with the expansion, or those with both. Something similar can could also be done with sins, where once or twice a year an stand alone expansion comes out which expands the gam
Speaking of which, what help is currently needed?
At least you can change your My Documents folder. I have mine point to my home folder on my linix partition
I think part of it is that when anyone sees two games with spaceships they think they are the same. It is like that with science fiction in general with a lot of people. Put on any show in space with aliens and people think it is Star Trek.
Doesn't work if you live in a dorm with no access to the router
Quite a few games have this. Starcraft and Rise of Nations are two that pop into my head. For those two two players just share control of everything and would be up to them how they they managed control and resource allocatement
Firstones.com is another one as well.
Phanatic1a, you are actually right. However I was in class and not able to divert all my attention into writing a big lecture on blackbodies and emission/absorption bands =p
Not with digital downloads at the moment. When I get my hard copy I am going ot install with that.
There are Red, Orange, Yellow, White and Blue stars. This is based on their temperature from cold to hot. There are also brown dwarfs which are "failed" stars that did not get enough mass to emit light of their own, but can still have planatary systems around them
I've started making a map based on Mongoos'es map and what the Freespace 22 modders came up with
From a science point of view, you can only get the colours being emitted by that star. Res stars only put out red light so you shoudl only see red. Yellow on up output all colors. What colors you see are based on if it is an absorption or emission nebula (a nebula can be either, it depends on gas temperature and location of stars). You wont ever have green stars because stars are black body emitters. You would get a white star instead. Sorry I can't be more specific, I am in class.
My hunch is no. But I would be happy if both Wine devs and Ironclad can get it to work though wine :)
Gimp has one as well.
