That was the special pirate "Stop Time And Wormhole The Hell Out Of There" defense. :) -- Retro

ZzZ_Guy, that can happen when the pirates have already selected their target and have started moving toward it and then the player builds a new front-line base that just seems to be on their path. I agree with the suggestion that pirates should go for bounty and overall behave more intelligently. It doesn't make sense that in a recent big furball, I got distracted by a two-pronged assault on my chokepoints by Red and Green enemies and lost a Pirate bidding war against Red. By the time t
Looks like a good set of changes, particularly with respect to the missile frigates and the economy boom/bust cycle. Any chance you could address this display bug: https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/305585 in this release too? -- Retro
BUG CONFIRMED. ...and it drives me a little nuts in singleplayer when I frequently pause the game to issue groups of orders. I do this paused so I can watch the space battles (yes, I'm a voyeur!). Scrolling simply does not work. I'm in a large 8-player map at midgame so the empire window is full, and when paused, I get this behaviour: (When loading from save) A B C D E Scrolling up A B blank blank blank <
As you can tell you have two equations and two unknowns.
You *only* have two equations and two unknowns if you're playing a game where the only unit every player builds is limited strictly to LRM's. That... doesn't sound like a lot of fun to me. Another factor that's missing from this analysis is that the missile upgrade also benefits all fleet bombers and (in the TEC case) two types of capital ship that carry missiles. Upgrades are most definitely not "usel
Another thing to do when assaulting a pirate base is to wait until just after you've taken out the latest raid from them so it doesn't generate a bunch of new ships when the raid timer expires and you're in the midst of their planet. Nothing worse than having a fleet "appear" out of thin air when you're otherwise busy with all you can handle. Pirate ships that survive a raid go back to their home system and hang out. When you first fly in, you may see a huge cluster of ships at one edge
Not a bad idea, although the bonus they provide should be minimal to avoid wrecking the balance on random maps. -- Retro
[aside]That's not proof. That's just conjecture. I've been a member of other forums that have had similar sporadic problems, and it was nothing to do with an organized attack. They had just undersized their hardware or network architecture, or there were other technical issues that caused minor forum borkage. -- Retro
the_Monk, when I look at the number of new posts that appear each day in the main forum, it's pretty low for a game getting so much press. There are very few topics with more than a dozen replies. I don't know if that is because of Denial of Service attacks (is there any proof of this? Why would people want to do that?) or because it's not the friendliest of places, but a bunch of people getting together to trash a topic is not the most compelling of invitations for new people to come here and h
but when he starts off accusing everyone of being "fanbois", well, that kinda nips civil discourse in the bud, don't it?
No, it doesn't. It's still quite possible to post a disagreeing but entirely civil reply. "Sorry, but I don't think I'm a fanboi at all, and I don't think this forum is full of them. I've offered equally positive and negative things in my forum comments about the game and they've been well received, so I'd say the forums have a balanced perspective. I'm
Wow. After reading the answers to this thread, even if it was a question with an obvious answer, I can see why traffic on this forum is lower than I would have expected for such a best-seller. -- Retro
The creators of Sins are to be commended for having such a flexible game-starting set of options. I thought a thread that discusses even more possible options might be enjoyable, although it's likely that most would be of benefit more for customizing Player Vs. AI games. So here goes one idea, and please post more if you have 'em. One thing I'd think would be interesting to see would be to give the AI more of a head-start than the player, but in a way that doe
Not really contradictory if you consider it to be "infrastructure": it couldn't be resting on the surface or it wouldn't be able to maneuver to wherever around the equator that it was needed. It's the same category as a Vasari civilization structure - it would be within the inside circle of the gravwell and thus more a part of the planetary infrastructure component of the system than the gravwell orbital-structure component. But it wouldn't be "physically" attached to the planet. The d
Hi, all. Some suggestions for 1.1 or expansion consideration. I think all of these are within the "spirit" of Sins canon and warfare, although others might disagree. A number of people desire better planetary defenses, particularly in early game. One thought for this is a turret that autospawns up to five armored drones that it controls (much like a carrier builds up to a certain number of fighters). These drones normally park beside the turret, but when
Blair, that's the nicest - and fully justified - way of saying RTFM that I've ever seen. :) What MIGHT be appropriate is to include an "immediately decline because it's my ally" button on the Mission description screen. Clicking it increases the probability of spawning a different mission, one that might be against one of your enemies, a little faster. This would have to be carefully managed to avoid players clicking through missions until they find one that th
Uh, regarding your justification: isn't everyone dead before you can recolonize? :) -- Retro
...you mean like Earth and the International Space Station? :-)
This is pedantry...
Regardless, realism gets thrown completely out the window when you can fill up an entire terran planet's surface with population within two hours of completely glassing all of the infrastructure that a different race had built on it and then landing a few shuttles from a single small colonizing starship on it. -- Retro
Agreed with windexglow. If you really want to have fun, try playing a medium map next against 3 other AI's. The game just doesn't realistically know how to do a one-on-one against a human. -- Retro
I've had a blast playing this game. Very much worth the money I've spent on it. Thanks! Anyone else agree? (Not seeing a post like this for the short sojourn that I've been on these forums, I thought it'd be okay to post a new thread that, quite simply and without any big proclamations or justifications, says "thanks".) -- Retro
What an awesome, epic read. Thanks for taking the time to post and capture all that. -- Retro
