I quit playing a while back, and uninstalled everything. I popped into the forums recently and was mildly surprised to see that at least a few people still seem to be playing, or at least leaving a few posts. Tell me... what is the state of online play these days, in terms of player counts? Do people still play online? As an aside, the main issue for me quitting the game was imbalance. I finally understood that at the rate these people release patches (a couple
I actually don't understand why every Protoss don't train Dark Templars against midgame.
The tech is expensive, takes a long time to get, and doesn't really have anything else useful in the tree. Most protosses are frantically trying to pump out whatever they can to somehow not get rolled by terran. They can't afford to spend money and time on some exotic, expensive dt tech. Still, it's probably better than ht tech, which sucks major balls.
Another patch, another epic failure. Terran buffed again, protoss and zerg nerfed again. Terran is so OP now it isn't funny, yet they are continuously buffed ever more. Despite terran newbs screaming about void rays, they weren't OP at all. ALL AIR can be "OP" (ever been hit by a mass of banshees, or battlecruisers)? Yet the void ray was nerfed. At this point I have decided that Blizzard truly doesn't know what the hell it is doing. My guess is they
However, that said there are tons of top players on TL who do know what they're talking about.
I actually don't fault their skill - those top TL guys would stomp me in a microsecond. I also don't fault their knowledge - they certainly know what they are talking about. I fault their philosophy on game design, i.e. how much "skill" should be in the game, what constitutes "skill," etc. Basically, they are the type people who think it's good to remove ad
What I personally find crazy is Blizzard's definition of a moving shot. There has been a relatively large clamor by top players for Blizzard to implement better 'moving shot' mechanics where you can fire then move away very quickly, and if timed right, fire and move off before coming to a complete stop from before attacking. Blizzard clearly has no idea what this means because they implemented 'moving shot' on the Phoenix where you literally s
Patch 11 out - at a glance looks like severe buffs for terran again. I really don't understand this.
But on those maps where there's a back entrance into your base, an army of stalkers can just blink their way in and those units, unlike reapers, are nasty and you can get them pretty quickly.
I agree. A different ball of wax, but force shields can be incredibly frustrating, I guess you'd say? I feel bad using them sometimes, when I see that the other player basically has no chance after I've done it (blocking their ramp as their reinforcements run down, th
With regards to that invitational film... honestly speaking, that was the kind of play you see in silver or gold.
Yet I see this happen to top rated players time and time again. I'm talking the top two or three players in the game, literally. It's hard for me to see how you could criticize the play of people who play on a level about 1000 better than you, I, or anyone else could ever play. I think the more sensib
Someone complaining about reapers can explain to me how someone defends against that many stalkers (it's not like you can put siege tanks that early on everywhere and stalkers are anti-everything.
I hear ya (again, my main complaint is marauders). I actually never see blink researched. I can play 100 games and not see it. I'm curious.... how often do you see it? What league? Just a few unrelated tidbits for discussion: - Some d
I just can't see how a platinum player is having trouble with reapers.
I actually don't have trouble with reapers. I can get a stalker out (late) to defend against a reaper rush. The other guy above brought up reapers, not me. I just responded. I can see an imbalance in them though - you have to assume from the get-go that you are being reaper-rushed, whether you are or aren't. But at the end of the day, I can live with reapers as they ar
what league are you playing in?
Platinum.
Protoss: a single cannon beside your minerals and the reaper harassment against probes is toast.
Of course. The problem is, if you go early forge as protoss in platinum, you lose. Did you read this thread?
Also there's a reason you train stalkers
Again, did you read this thread? The earliest stalker possible comes out after the reaper gets to your ba
It already was about a week ago.
A nerf that still didn't do the job, then a rebuff a few days ago that wasn't needed.
IMO, marauders are a peice of cake.
They aren't a piece of cake. They counter every tier 1 unit protoss can build, plus scale through the entire game, they have tons of hit points, are too fast (can kite), can stim, can be healed, and have that concussive grenade. They take out buildings. They can pretty
I still think terran is OP, particularly against protoss. I guess blizzard doesn't agree, as they keep nerfing protoss and keep buffing terran. I guess blizzard has access to data I don't have access to. Does anyone know the win/loss ratios for the different races? Is there a breakdown for different tiers, i.e. platinum, gold, silver, newb, etc? Because of blizzard's continual buffing of terran and nerfing of protoss, I'm guessing platinum protoss closes the gap
well sure. Beta's always end at some point I don't think this one is ending anytime soon, though.
Well, but you said this:
think i read in the fine print that the beta for gamestop lasts longer than amazon.
This seems to imply that some betas last longer than others. Almost like these gamestop and amazon betas are "fake" betas or temporary betas, not "real" betas? What did you mean by this? What's the story?
think i read in the fine print that the beta for gamestop lasts longer than amazon.
what? u mean there is a time limit on the beta?
Hotkeys as a Terran is a pain.
Ya, it is. It seems that instead of nerfing the other factions' hot keys to even them up with terran, they could have just fixed the terran hot keys. What would have been wrong with that? I'm actually pissed about this. I mean, imagine if the Sins devs decided to screw up the hotkeys for Sins, and screw up the empire tree and make it a lot harder to use, in the name of "injecting more skill" in the game. I
Also... purposefully nerfing the user interface (the way the hotkeys work while macro'ing) to make it more difficult to use, supposedly to inject more "skill" into the game? I actually find that infuriating - to the point that I won't buy the game if they keep it that way. Do people out there really support that? Your thoughts?
If someone can post back here stating definitively whether the beta keys are still available AS OF TODAY, I'd appreciate it. Thanks.
Protoss has been continuously nerfed every single patch. So I also expect incoming nerfs - warranted or not. Why? That's simply the way of things. Once devs start nerfing a faction, they just go "nerf happy" and tend to keep doing it until that faction is UP.
Patch 9 - Protoss just got nerfed again. So did Zerg. Terran just got buffed again. I really don't see why immortals got nerfed. It's not like I've ever seen them massed in my life (u
Well what's required to run it? Would a decent, single-core laptop with 2 gigs memory, and "regular" (nothing fancy) graphics card run it?
Well, they 'shouldn't be in the business' of slaughtering innocent American citizens...
You've been drinking way too much governmental cool-aid propaganda. What people swept up in Afghanistan had ever "slaughtered innocent American citizens?" There were 12 year old boys swept up, tortured, and then thrown in Guantanamo. You think 12 year old boys living in huts in Afghanistan slaughtered American citizens? The US had to have "terrorists" to sho
As for the right of habeus corpus, Bush did not suspend it for US citizens... that was Lincoln.
You are right that Lincoln - our nation's first dictator - suspended Habeus Corpus. But you are wrong about Bush - our nation's second dictator. He ended it, for US citizens and everyone else. Bush locked up US citizens without ever bringing charges and with no intention of ever having a trial. I said at the time that he would be setting a precedent
