Thank you Haeso for summarizing a lot of the flaws already brought up with the current fleet cap/tax system. Though they were already covered earlier in this thread, it is obvious some people (Martyr) did not take the time to read the entire thread and instead decided to bring up arguments that had already been addressed. I was hoping this could remain a friendly discussion about the fleet issues but some people (again Martyr) feel the need to attack others just because they have different views

[quote]I think whoever is arguing against changes to the fleet cap, really should read the posts already posted instead of extending this thread even more with the same arguments. It's clear that the supply cap doesn't work in large games with multiple solar systems. Even before it is reached, two much smaller players can topple one much larger player due to the mechanics of the supply cap. After the supply cap, everyone has 2000 ships to play with, and the larger empire has to fight an incredib

As I said earlier, there is a difference between having a good economy and having the most planets. A person with 5 planets can easily make more than a person with 10 planets. So no that does NOT mean that the game is simply a planet grab because it may be better to spend your time developing your existing planets then going to colonize more. Also, I never said that the small empire should have "absolutely no chance" against the large one. I merely stated they SHOULD be a disadvantage because th

These "give the little guy a fair chance" arguments really don't make any sense. If you do not play as well as another empire and they manage to make twice the income you make, then you SHOULD be at a disadvantage. And don't say then all the game becomes is a planet grab because a person with 5 well developed planets can make more than a person with 10 or 15 undeveloped ones. If you have the economy to support a bigger fleet then you should be able to build one. Using this "fair chance" logic if

That is exactly what I was trying to say. Just because someone puts themselves at a disadvantage for whatever reason doesn't mean you should change things in the game to give them 'a fighting chance'. Everyone starts with equal oppourtunity (or just about) to expand. I wasn't saying to base the number of ships on how many planets you have. I was saying instead of having set percentages for X amount of ships, each ship should have a very tiny resource drain every second. That way an empire w

Thats why I really beleive an empire should be able to build ships based on its economic standings, which may not be the same as the number of planets it controls. I don't entirely follow this argument of giving up once you're at a disadvantage. Wouldn't you be at a disadvantage say, if your opponent out manuevered you and destroyed your fleet?

I thought a huge part of this game was battle tactics and strategy. If this theoretical game of yours only has 9 planets in it, then I doubt either of you would be maxed out in ships because it is such a small game. You could easily fight back and win. Of course the person with 6 planets has the upper hand, but shouldn't he? After all he managed to get twice as many planets as you in the same amount of time. If you feel the need to give up when the odds are slightly tipped in his favor, just bec

Yes but at a certain point in these big games, what good do those few extra credits do? With this current system, any empire, no matter what size it is, can field the same size fleet as the largest empire (assuming they pay for the fleet upgrades and up front cost of each ship). 3 Empires of maybe 4-5 planets each could easily overwhelm an empire made up of 40-50 planets. Isn't there something wrong with that?

And that is exactly why this Fleet % system is flawed. I only have to pay 3 cred/sec to field my 400ship fleet just because I only make 4 cred/sec? And since outter planets far from my capital make next to nothing, then you're saying the only purpose they really serve is fodder? Because that's really the only advantage I see to having more planets since corruption and distance makes their income essentially nonexistant.

I think the whole fleet % thing is kind of absurd. Just because the an empire makes less doesn't mean that a ship would cost less for that empire to upkeep. There should be no cap on the amount of ships per empire, only each ship should have a resource drain per second (very very small). That way larger empires with better economies would be able to field larger fleets, and there wouldn't be an issue of small empires each having maxed out fleets, because they wouldn't have the resources to suppo

Yea I agree this is a major issue. Since there is a maximum number of ships you can have, then once any empire reaches a certain point it doesn't really matter how many planets you have since everyone can be maxed out on ships. So they should at least have the advantage of being able re-create their fleet faster with all their extra logistics points. The fact that ships can be made faster than they can be destroyed is a bit unrealistic no matter how far in the future this is.

Is there anyway to remove the cap at 2000 (2300) ships? This may be good for small-medium maps, but for huge maps this is hardly enough to defend yourself. I know I've read in some posts that you can change something in the game file on the wordpad, but some people say it doesn't work. Do I have to wait for a mod or can this simply be modfied in the game file?

Yes in some games the AI masses about 20 Seige Frigates and unless theres a defending fleet there, no amount of turrets can stop them. Especially since they can just fly to a spot around the planet where there are the least amount of turrets. I also have a huge problem with 'fleet tag'. Not once has the enemy stopped to engage my force but just seems to either retreat back the way they came or head off in another random direction. It is semi-managable when it's just one AI but when multiple AI s

Noob Question alert: So I know theres no cap on the amount of planets/stars/players which is really cool. And I noticed everything is crammed into the same galaxy. So I assume even if you had 100 stars there would still only be one galaxy? Anyways my question was how exactly do you travel from star to star? They don't exactly have phase lanes between them. Sorry for the noob question I'm sure it's something really obvious too :/.
