Given how god the original game is ( Kudos to the Dev's ), I'll buy the expansions. Probably regardless of what the reviews say. I haven't liked a game this much in years, and I've been playing computer games for over 20 ( way back to Infocomm ). But, static D never wins. EVER. I'd like to see the new assault units. I wonder if a Marza Missile barrage will affect mine fields ?
You can also use LV6 Marza to kill the siege quickly.
About the best option. Hell, I'd park all my new caps in that system and level them like crazy off the work of that one Marza. Easier then pirates ! But 90 siege frigates ? They can't have much of a fleet if they're building that many...
I don't think you're down and out quite that easily. One planet lost, out of 10 or 15, on a 30+ planet map isn't that big a deal. One planet out of 5, on a 10 planet map ? Thats a different story. While you've lost a fleet, you still have an empire and it's resources, given some time, you can recover. So, you'd have to play for time, and a lot depends on your opponent in this case. Even if they drove thier fleet directly to your home world, it would still take 4 or 5 minutes to make all those
A Marza is the only ship in the game that can single-handedly wipe out the pirate base. I've wiped almost complete enemy fleets. Too sweet to see your outnumbered, kick off MB, and twenty seconds later see most of the enemy fleet dissolve. First time I used it in a LAN game, the guy across the romm was all "WTF !!" . haha ! Missile Barrage ROCKS.
/facepalm AI is just terrible enough to not used for the arguments of balance discussion..... If you face a decent human player, he will be going to pick your capital ships in the beginning of the battle. Even if you have same size or bigger fleet than his, you just can't make your capital ships survive in late battle; the only best thing you can done is to make sure his don't survive as well. No amount of repair ve
/Procumbo / General_Harada No, it does not matter whether you scout or face a losing battle, it is all about insane firepower from any late fleets. In any sizable late battle, you are going to lose capital ships in really short time. You just can't prevent this unless you merely exclude capital ships form the main battles. Now, the situation got worse since now bombers are viable. They are fairly fast, and this means
Caps are just fine the way they are, IMO. Sure, at the start of the game they are lords of battle, but in the late game, they should have more of a support role. It's abilities make it more dangerous then it's guns. Armistice is a 'get out of jail free' card if i ever saw one. Akkan's range extender ? Kol flak burst. Marza Missile Barrage... need I say more ? A Marza can clean up a pirate fleet of 100's in 20 seconds ! Thats impressive. Under powered ? Hell no. <
Always multiple fleets. You can't react fast enough with a single fleet. I usually have a 'heavy fleet' with two or three dreadnaughts/battleships, 30-50 cruisers of various types ( mostly HC's, but 5-10 repair and 5-10 carriers ), and 20-30 LRMs. I keep a second fleeet with a colonizer, 20-30 HC's. On large multi-star maps, I'll bump the colonizer fleet with two more dreadnaughts/battleships and another 20 cruisers. You can split these fleets into smaller groupings. On
Stepped up to to Hard versus the AI a while ago. It sure doesn't mess around, does it ? As stated above, keep moving. Don't turtle, don't count on static defenses. Don't let them build a huge fleet. If you don't see their fleet for a while, you can bet when it does show up it will be nasty. Hard Ai's tend to mix a lot more ship types, so don't SPAM your own fleet. I use static D, a lot, but mostly as pirate defense or to augment my defense fleets. It can turn the t
Besides all of the above, my whole point was that sure, it would be great to outspend your opponent, but the way to win this game is to be smarter than your opponent by building counters to what he is building.
True. Doesn't matter how much cash/resourcces you have if you're spending stupidly. But in general, someone with a better economy will win, all else being equal. About MP Play. While I
Several things you COULD have done. Even with a Novalith, they aren't guarnteed of winning. Sure they'll nuke a planet, but you can re-colonize in minutes. And the cool down timer limits them. Main thing I can see, though, is after 2 hours you only had 7 planets in a three star game ? One or two players should have been out by this point. The game must have been pretty static. Missile platforms and hangars shouldn't even be a consideration for fleets on either side. There should
The whole point of this game is to not out spend your opponent, but build the counters to what he is producing.
Not as TEC. Mid to Late game you have so much money the only thing limiting you is your production rates. TEC's main strength is their Economy, not economy. Not saying you should SPAM stuff, cause 60 Cobalts versus a single level 6 marza would be funny ( for the marza
... Its easily interruptable, and every faction has an ability to stop the Marza....
Switched my stance. It's not OP'd. In a single player normal game, versus 8 AI's, 3 stars, locked teams. Trying out the new changes in the beta in large scale engagements. I had my missile barrage disabled several times, on 3 different Marzas no less ! 1500 point fleet ( mine ), found myself behind enemy lines on a new star and stumbled across one of the two remaining AI's
You may have a point, Wbino . People might not try random maps. But then again, they might. I think the real value of a campaign is so that new players can learn the game in a controlled environment, adding units a few at a time ( a la Warcraft ). IE: Capture X, or kill so many enemy ships, or make two cap ships. Lets face it, the tutorial doesn't really help. I went through all of them, and still had no idea how to play the game other then a few basics. Civ didn't have campaigns, but i
Yikes! vs a single player and a single ai on a small map? Very curious...
Had it happen to me once, and the fleet did get huge.. Choke point for the whole map, had 4 phase lanes in, two for each side. Made it easy to expand on my side !
Make the missiles have a decent miss chance; that way it needs teaming up with an Akkan to reach full potential. (Especially if the akkan's range bonus also helps).
Now this is an AWESOME idea. Puts it more in line with CB/Malice which requires two ships. I'd sign on for this. As it stands now, forget the Kol, Sova, or Dunov. Akkans for colonize ( ok, and Ion Bolt ) and Marzas for mass destruction are the only two I get..
Using : Vista 64 Ultimate Nvidia 8800GTS (640) Intel dual core OC'd to 2.99 4 gig RAM. Runs perfect. No issues, no speed drop.
A lot of posts have been made on standard opening moves, look around. Using 1.09 patch, in single player games... note that you shouldn't wait for the first thing to complete before you do the next. You can do the most of these steps here before you run out of money/resources. 1: 3 scouts. Absolutely the first thing you should do. You need to knwo whats out there, and what to take first, and what direction to expand in. Wormholes, pirate base. 2: Crystal asteroid, you only
Dl'd 1.09 this weekend and had to try it out in a small 4 way random.. I cleared a pirate base with two Marzas in under a minute. Just waited for them to mob me, kicked off missile barrage. Ka-boom. Had a second Marza do it again for cleaning up the few who weren't in radius. One empty pirate base. Nuked a Vas fleet too, not even a challenge really. One cool thing about it. Bring along the caps you have that need leveling, have the Marza stomp the pirates. Instant low risk, hig
So for the most part TEC special ships are only benefiting single targets. Now you compare that to a Subverter, which can for 30 seconds completely and utterly disable a limitless number of ships around it. Its not just disabling movement, or weapons, or abilities. Its disabling EVERYTHING.
I play TEC 98% of the time, and I've been on the wrong end of subverters many times. It sucks. But, a good counter I've found to stomp subverters is a Marza with Missile barrage in t
Even if your fleet gets demolished, if you have the economy and the ship production speed research, you can pump out another fleet in minutes, which is a huge advantage if you are on defense and the fight is close enough for your ships to get there on time.
Exactly. Production is what counts. I've been in LAN games where I had two planets, each with three frigate factories, and I was pumping out fleets like nobodies business. Every three minutes, I had another group

I play mostly against AI or LAN opponents, since my internet connection blows... Hangars do the job nicely. Scouts rarely get past my edge planets, but then I am a fanatic about building hangar defenses. First it discourages the AI. Second, once you kill the seige craft, pirates are a minor annoyance. Third, they don't have a range. Fourth, they make a nice 'non-fleet cap' addition to my fleet if I ever have to fall back. Add in a repair platform and, unless you get blind-sided by an en
If you're loosing the planet anyway, seems like a good idea to me. At least you salvage something. IE: Your enemy has three caps bombing the planet, it's down to 700 health, and you can't mount a counter attack.. Keep his fleet tied up as long as possible and put off the scuttle option until the last second. He's wasted the time seiging, buying you some. It doesn't really matter what his cap ship is, you're side is loosing the income of the planet regardless.
