I've occasionally ran into trouble fighting against normal AI ships who used the repair ships to support its fleets, they just wore me down with attrition and I couldn't hit him harder than he could heal. I tried focus firing on the hoshiko's, but the AI would just warp more in. In the end I had to retreat with heavy damage.
This is exactly what is happening. Every single ship in his damn fleet has that little bright light a

Planets with maxed out population, and maxed out emergency shelters, and maxed out planetary defenses, need to last a long time under a seige frigate assault. a very long time. And phase intercepts need to work, period. The ai doesn't seem to be bothered by them in the slightest.
actually i am fighting the TEC, in my territory. in which i have a couple of guass cannons and a hanger bay to boot. the ai fleet composition is similar, but its capital ships are on average on or two levels lower than mine.
thanks, +2 to chronofrost7
my fleet is: kol*2 marza*1 akkan*1 Dunov*2 kodiak*23 perchereon (sp) *23 cielo*20 garda*25 hashiko*25 cobalt*21 javelis*25. not interested in planetary bombardment, so no siege frigates in this fleet. so what am i doing wrong? this fleet should be able to at least take a few ships down with it. playing on normal ai.
As in where in my file system. I spent about 5 minutes looking for them, which is far too long. They need to be in either the stardock games folder, or in the user data folder. -2 to stardock and ironclad.
What a terribly frustrating game. I have played for over 10 hours now, replaying a 1v1 from various save points. Each time it ends up in a huge fleet engagement where the ai and I bring in pretty even fleets and it (AI) ends up mopping up the gravity well with me. i have researched pretty much every facet of combat, including the long range cannon that i keep lobbing at his few remaining planets. and i have a balanced fleet, with a few level 9 cap ships and a few level 6 or so and every suppo
I agree that the planetary defense elements are poor. I have one particular save game where there is basically a choke point asteroid that i have fortified with 8 or so gauss turrets and ~3 fighter bays. Plus I have a large fleet with about 5 cap ships (average level of 6), and 100 misc other ships in the gravity well. the ai opponent jumps in with a fleet approximately 25% larger, same number of cap ships, and proceeds to wipe me out, taking perhaps 5% losses in the process. I have

How do I decommission an asset (tactical or logistical structure, for example)to regain some of the invested raw materials and/or credits? thanks
I am consistently keeping the bounty for my opponent higher than the bounty on me in a 1v1 match, and this is evidenced by the bounty charts: my line for my spending on pirate bounties far exceeds that of my opponent. however, I am always the one getting attacked. someone please tell me what I am doing wrong. I am trying to fund a covert war on my opponent by way of pirate, but it is not working. my ai opponent reaps all the benefits of pirate warfare, but i am paying all the costs.
I don't mind the pirates, but I agree there should be a simple way to turn them off.
A campaign would make this game better for me. It would give me objectives to achieve, and would provide a pay-off for achieving the objectives by way of narrative, cut scenes, etcetera.
