Put media centers in a planet near it, and wait for the allegiance to change.

Adding more culture spammers, refineries, and trade ports has a cumulative effect- an ice planet with glaciers and 5 trade ports can make a whopping 10 credits/turn. A planet full with refineries can add a whole resource point to both crystal and metal.
Yes, economy is solely population and trade posts, as well as planetary bonuses and (maybe? I haven't found one, but I'm assuming) an artifact or two. Refineries go to other planets and come back with resources via the Deus Ex Machina method. They add little resources, though- in a recent game I had 4 planets totally filled with refineries (about 20), and 5 or 6 more splattered throughout my star system, to a total benefit of +3 to crystal and +2 to metal.
It's freakin' EPIC!
Blackstone fortress could be implemented as a strange form of Novalith cannon which would target ships, but I can't see any other way to use it in game.
I'd like to suggest downloading 3 or 4 different pieces of anti-virus/adware/spyware software and run scans with them all.
Grey goo!
Two critiques- - Would like to see some form of huge ginormous amazingly stupendous gun which blows anything smaller than a capitol ship to smithereens in a single, impressively sized shot. The size of a fighter, or thereabouts. Very slow fire rate, and range all the way across a planetary well, of course. - Slower speed makes no sense; slow acceleration would be fine, but slower max speed would become a logistic hassle and makes no scientific sense. Maybe it would be known to
