spend more time building your fleat and less time researching technologys so early in the game. infact, don't even bother with your capital ship until after you've capped your fleit and researched for more fleat. all you should really need early game is two civic centers and hangers, and make sure you get the planetary health upgrade on your front line planets. Towards the tenth hour of a thirteen hour game (of straight play) I started to wish for something more.
