No kidding, until my dad can run linux without him pestering me to death over the phone it isn't a viable platform for entertainment developers. Let's face it they need to appeal to a broader market. Not to mention the simple fact that DirectX is light years easier in terms of development. The bottom line? OpenGL needs to grow up, and linux needs to move beyond its "I don't pre-can squat" attitude.

You guys are missing a rather critical point... Invasion is a tactic to preserve the resources of a given area so that they can be used against the enemy. However, In the case of Sins you have 3 completely difference races competing on a galactic scale! This isn't all human vs human. One could make the argument that since Advent are mostly human they should be able to make some good out of a TEC facility but the fact still remains that Advent use psychic abilities to do everything whe
Forgive me if I`ve posted to this point already, but the poster within this thread who claims that a multi-core cpu is a waste of time is full of shit.hi you might want to read the post you're referring to before posting a diatribe on how games use two cores, when I specifically stated that a quadcore CPU is a waste of money and a dualcore CPU has been standard for the last 4 years or so.
Seconded... if you have the budget for a high end CPU and decide to snag a quad fine
Please, Add more functionality to GF for the notepad impaired. Wormhole to Wormhole connections built-in are a must. You can already do in-system wormhole to wormhole. It's inter-system wormholes that are the problem. But yes, I agree that GalaxyForge needs this capability added post haste.
You know I'm just happy that sins uses a human readable format for its maps. Editors are great but they tend to be inefficient in terms of actual file crafting. The abili
how long wil it be for the next generation chips i hope not soon just bought a new dual core 3,2 computer
The sort answer? Unknown, both the CPU venders are aware of the difficulties multi-core design imposes on software developers. As for where I got the information? It was an old Network World article I happened across last year in the bathroom. ;) Those things make great bathroom material when you work on networks for a living. Anyway, I can't find the original art
Yes but Internet connections are getting larger as well. Heck I can get 10mb up and 15mb down on my cable now if I want to pay the bill. Personally, I'm still on the floor that pirates would actually try and get support for their busted badly cracked games. I use a world of cracks in my gaming because I cannot stand going CD hunting to play a game. Only once have I had the urge to contact a developer for any support. For me contacting a game dev for support is like calling Microso
Multiple posting.. random shutoffs.. *sniff* I smell virus.
"Other" 4x games don't fit Sin's mold. Sins is much faster paced than any 4x game I have ever played mostly because of its real time nature. When the dust settles I consider sins an RTS more so than 4x. Really this is Supcom in space with a research tree instead of a build tree. I love the format don't get me wrong, I'm hooked 8 ways from Sunday and looking forward to the release level mod tools to play with it some more! The pace of the game is a little much and for a new player a
Don't make me puke.. EA has post sales support? I have been waiting almost a year for them to let me play multi-player. Yes I bought the game, yes I bought it blindly because I trusted the developers to make a good game. No I STILL can't play it online. I was promised a working game after the Generals debacle and what I got was Generals with a new skin and different units! EA is a prime example of the PROBLEM not the solution.
Just to defuse some confusion here.. I have some programming experience specific to multi-threaded applications. This isn't some buzz word when it comes to writing software. In order for any program to use more than one logic processor (read CPU or Core in this case) the executable has to contain multiple threads of execution. These so called "threads" are basically lines of thought, or lines of instruction that can be executed side by side for improved performance. All that
Different genre entirely I play both.
@Sky - thats cool. We have had many people fess up here the past couple weeks. I think SD/IC is going to start an amnesty program. It is also a testament to Frogboys philosophy, which I also happen to share and an outright bitch slap in the face of all those people screaming for DRM and complaining that DRM is a necessary thing in this day and age if a company is going to stay in business.
You know it goes so much farther yet falls right on this statement... Righ
At the risk of impugning my own reputation, little as it may be around here... I pirated the game, I wandered into Pirate Bay snagged a torrent allowed my healthy 10mb/second cable line to pull the image, mounted it, installed it, and have been happily playing ever since. Now, before the flames begin allow me to illustrate a couple points. First, within US law you are allowed possession of any copyrighted work for any purpose for the period of 24 hours. This means that softwa
Done that several times I might add, with and without the -'s. There was an error validating your key or some similar crap pops up. I just found a registrations button under the my account link at the top of the forum. In this area I have my SoaSE key as well as the "Quest Theme" the Quest theme came with myColors when I downloaded it. I really hope this isn't my "Exclusive Desktop Theme", the people at Stardock that came up with that eye sore need to be shot!
Thanks for the help, I've already tried stuffing my serial number into myColors so I guess an e-mail is the best option.
My apologies if this has been posted before. I have dug through the myColors theme stuff and it doesn't appear to work. I bought a non-collectors edition from Walmart but the box very clearly states "Exclusive Bonus Desktop Theme." I have scoured the DVD trying to find this content and I'm wondering if anyone has a clue as to where it is?
To try to save some confusion I'm going to reexplain the process of making an interstellar worm hole connection. This information is posted here already but I think what is posted here is misleading as the code presented simply doesn't work. It does outline the concept correctly but its syntax is incorrect. Here is a working snippet of code.
interStarConnectionCount 2 interStarConnection starIndexA 0 planetIndexA 15 starIndexB 1 planetIndexB 6
The pji's are currently useless. At least make them cover the entire gravity well so that the AI in their randomness gets some use out of the things. Also, the TEC ultimate missile needs toned down.. the other two game ending guns just don't compete. You actually have to get a fleet into position to take advantage of the gains from the Advent and Vasari game enders. The TEC simply need two of the things to blow your home world into pieces in one shot, and you can't recolonize and reb
