I really like the symmetry of the game. ANd I mean that literally. The box is perfect. I even took a ruler and measured it. It has 6 sides and although they are not all the same, incredibly each pair of opposite sides is EXACTLY the same; I.E. the top is just the same size as the bottom, the front is the same as the back, etc.. The only way to improve on that symmetry would be to package it in a box that is a perfect cube. I understand, though, that in the cookie-cutter wor

Who has a clear favorite? I have played several and of course have played the randon Medium size game many times. What one or two of the Medium size games that are most worth trying out?
As you destroy the ship you would destroy components of the ship, not just the hull and armor. Some of the weapons would be damaged as the overall damage to the ship nears the point of exploding. In addition to the damage to the weapons, the crew would be reduced (killed/wounded) or at least they would be temporarily forced to abandon their stations as they catch fire or become exposed to the vaccum of space. Maybe as a sh
These are great. The first 16 are very well done and would make a great addition to the game. I must confess that there is something unsettling about the last one. Perhaps it is TOO scary.
I find that it really speeds things up when you are ready to go onto the offensive if you have researched revolts x 2 and let it work for you. It is not going to take over the enemy's planets by itself; it just keeps his resources and attention tied up to the point that you can walk through.
What about after you max out you logistics tree? I paid for all the Cap Ship Crews while also maxing out the fleet points line but I hit a wall where I couldn't build more frigates. I saw some post where some guy had like 40,000 ships or something insane like that. Is there a way to go farther than the limit I hit?
Good point Martyr about the rebels. This was not a criticism of the game, only a thought. It does seem very effective though. I hate to say it but I have really just focused on TEC because it takes more time than I have had to invest to learn them all well.
It took several games just to figure out the very basics. I progressed to realixing that you have to build CAP ships immediately. I screwed around a lot in the military tech tree for help against the AI. I have just about decided that the ultimate TEC tech in the tech tree (worker uprising) is almost better than the trans-galaxy bombardment thing at the end of the TEC military tree. You reach the level where the workers start revolting and suddenly the other guy gets
I just thought it was curious. I really liked GAL CIV II, but the one thing that really jumped out in that game too was the REALLY basic portraits of your player and the AI players. I was surprised to see the same artist did the portraits in SOASE. Honestly, if every sci-fi paperback in the bookstore (even the God-awful ones) can have decent cover art, then this game should deserve better quality portraits. Don't get me wrong; I give high praise to the game graphics and to the game
I agere with Polistes. If you don't accept the mission you should not be penalized for "failing" it, especially since you can't DEMAND missions of the AI players.
The portraits (avatars?) provided in the game to represent you and the AI players are pretty rough. They look like they were drawn by the same guy that did them for Galactic Civilizations II, in which the portraits were also pretty weak and surprisingly amateurish. Better than I could do of course, but not a whole lot better. I hope the artist is not the chief designer's middle-schooler son or something. I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings, but these por
And what about adding a "REPUTATION" element to it like you see in the Civilization games? If you make an alliance with someone in CIV III or CIV IV, and then you screw them over, then your reputation suffers. It becomes more difficult to get alliances in the future. Not featured here at all.
My only criticism of the game is about the interaction with the other races on AI. The diplomacy is a little goofy. I especially like the one guy who repeatedly says "I have a job for you....if you are interested!" Then you go through the little windows to see the interesting job he has for you. Wow, is it a mission? You read it and it just says "Give me 200 metal." Kind of reminds me of the talking toaster in the old Red Dwarf sci fi comedy on the BBC. He'd beat around the b
