The lack of anti-medium is an issue. However, the Advent LRM equivalent (illuminator) is still the cost effective counter, when positioned right (so as to employ more than 1 beam). On my 35 Illuminators vs 70 Cobalts, I moved the Illuminators in the middle of the Cobalt fleet to take advantage of the 3 beams. The Cobalts massacred the Illuminators and still had numerous ships left after the battle.
There's really no reasonable basis to be testing 35 illuminators vs 70 coba
Advent ships are weaker and more plentiful, period. Bombers suck against light units. Just use lots of units and fighters. That should get the job done.
The lack of anti-medium is an issue. However, the Advent LRM equivalent (illuminator) is still the cost effective counter, when positioned right (so as to employ more than 1 beam). It's an interesting match-up: positioned right, it's a hugely cost-effective counter. Position wrong, and it's not a counter.
Uh sry how is it balanced???????? 5 caps and all deff stats they should cost deff amount's.
Given that they cost the same, the caps are balanced BASED on cost. Essentially, the developers SET cost as the same (other than the battleships), and attempted to have each cap ship provide the same amount of "value". You're assuming that the devs "value" certain ships over others, e.g., that a carrier is ALWAYS better than a colonizer. Frankly, the worth of cap
You are all right and have provided some great advice/feedback.I'm not sure if this is good or not, but I'm sure with experience I can get better at it, but it takes me 20 minutes to colonize 4 planets, have them cleared out of enemy units, 1 capital ship, and 10 frigates.By the way, unless you missed it in the original post. This is a strategy just for the beginning phase of the game. I'm not talking about disregarding scouting all together. I'm just talking about the first 10 to 20 minu
You just made me realize something. I've been playing against a Fortification AI.
Well that explains it all. You're intentionally selecting an AI that will sit on its butt and let you expand like a mad fool. You're mumbling a lot about the importance of timing, but clearly timing isn't a huge part of your strategy. It doesn't matter if you're holding 10 worlds at the 15 minute mark or at the 15.25 mark. Getting scouts has nothing to do with enabling or disabling your
You mention that seconds could mean victory or defeat, but with out scouting, you're going to risk wasting minutes jumping your first fleet into a dead system if there are multiple phase lanes out of your home system. Personally, I like to know which is the best ORDER in which to colonize my first worlds. Just saying that you'll take all nearby worlds isn't the same as doing it in a reasonable order. Early game, I tend to be short on crystal, not credits. 200-400 cred for 1
Anyone know if battle experience for kills is shared between caps or is simply a flat value for all caps present? In other words, if a heavy cruiser is worth 500 exp for a kill when 1 cap ship is in the fight, would two caps get 250 exp each or the full 500 exp for the same kill?I haven't got hard proof, but in my experiences, it's shared.I'll look for proof on this later; but hopefully speculation is good enough for now.
This is where I'm leaning, as well. I keep feelin
Capships have neat abilities but don't think of them as rare hero units that support your massive army. Capships are the backbone of your fighting force that have large numbers of smaller craft to support THEM.Perhaps I'm wrong in this, but when I was playing the game I found the opposite to be the case: capships seemed like overly expensive units that weren't worth the resources and popcap. I'd get the freebie capship, but rarely more than that - in fact if the freebie died I rarely repl
Let's not dissect this game the way we dissect a piece of work in a english lit class. Many people bought the game to have fun, including myself, not buy it then apply literary/game criticism to it and expect others to do the same.
Here's an easy one out of that: don't join threads that have the sole purpose of dissecting and discussing the game. A lot easier to control your own actions than running around trying to tell everyone else not to do something.
EMH, You are 100% correct. Shield mitigation is scaled by the percentage of your shielding left, thus against Advent when you're down to 600 some odd shielding you get an absurd amount of mitigation. You actually want to focus fire at that point because spread fire would do very little. While against TEC it is viable to spread fire, but in general you will have units focus firing on other units which have a weakness to it but never a general focus fire. However, you wa
While indeed a bit of a knee jerk defense, most of it isn't that far off if you think it through. In DoW, only 1 race does not use the exact economic model as the rest (Necron). The other races have barracks, mech buildings, turrets, research buildings, power plants, req "extractors" (for a lack of a better word) and so forth, so by a glance, everything is exactly the same structurally with buildings, with the same number of upgrades in their HQs for the most part.. There are slight varie
I say, of course it is insulting when somebody comes into your house and insults you on your work.
I think most posters are customers or potential customers. That position is very much different than a guest. People can, will, and should criticize a product that they paid money for. We're not here as random guests that should kow tow to the devs. Of course, people shouldn't be overly rude as a basic rule, but I don't see where the original comment wa
I'd say the differences between races is more apparent than in most 4X games, but on the other hand, doesn't compare to most RTS games. Which is fine, because Sins is supposed to straddle the two genres.
I personally think this is the balanced position. Those arguing that Sins has as much race diversity as a standard RTS are just throwing out a knee jerk defense. Starcraft, Warcraft, Dawn of War, and even the new Earth Assualt show a ton more diversity racially
