Running vista home premium 64bit, with 2 gigs of ram and 8800GTS 640. Not a problem at all. Smooth as butter.

While I have yet to get into the late game play, so far, I've found that using at least 4 or 5 hangars (somewhere between the 25/75 and 50/50 fighter/bomber ratio)complimented by a couple turrets and a repair bay is effective enough to stop at least the early pirate raids. Keep a smaller fleet (maybe 1 cap ship with a small host of frigates) in a central location of your empire to swoop in and assist if there's an actual assault.

Excellent! Thanks for the quick replies! I was worried I might have to start trying to take planets quicker, to gaurantee that I eventually FIND one of the little buggers.

I can't consult the manual at the moment (at work...), so I'll just ask. Forgive me if it's obvious. When you find an artifact, is it fixed to the planet? Meaning, do you lose control of the artifact if you lose the planet? Conversely, do you gain control of the artifact if you take the planet?
