Disclaimer: I have never used the original GalCiv II engine. I played the campaign in the Twilight engine. "An Unexpected Visitor" was the first map I ever played. I took your 'single planet' statement a bit too literally, so I had assumed you had wasted your colony ship. Personally I colonized just like you and wondered basically the same thing. I took the time to power through select parts of the limited tech tree and figure out the game a bit before trading some of those advances for

In the last game I played, I noticed some strange behavior involving trades. 1) Toxic Atmosphere Reducer and Advanced Toxic Atmosphere Reducer. I was playing as the Korath. In the beginning of the game, I noticed that no AI would even give me a single BC for these techs. That made sense as there were no toxic planets on the map. However, after I conquered most of the map with spore ships, the AI was still unwilling to give anything for these techs. I finally reduced the map to one

Everyone starts out with one planet. You are the only race that starts with a colony ship. How did you get beat so bad at colonization? At this point, you can either attempt to trade for a planet from the Altarians or just launch an assault from your homeworld since there's unlimited range on that map.

Threads about the lack of detail compared to HW2 come up several times a day. They are immediately responded to with assertions about how modern hardware can't handle all the details that they did 5 years ago for that game.
When Ironclad and Stardock were working on Sins, we made a conscious decision that the game would not require potential gamers to upgrade their systems. That meant we couldn't have things like moving turrets or whatever but it means that the size of the market

Advent get 6 levels of culture upgrades. The other races get 4. If a Vasari received equivalent Vasari bonuses in maxed out Advent culture, they would get a 22.5% increase in damage as opposed to a max of 15% in their own culture. That wouldn't make sense, and it would strongly discourage any non-Advent players from researching culture as they would get better bonuses while in Advent culture anyway. It would seem to me that your teammates should get their races' bonuses, but on

The siege platform takes 40 seconds to build. Seeing as the Desolator has to be within 2600 units of a planet to cast it, and the siege platform can hit a planet from 3000 units away, I'm guessing it's this delay that makes it seem non-functional.
so if the end benefit is increased credits, how does this really differ from the TEC's trade focus?
I agree. We should give the Advent a unique cultural ability. Maybe something like gaining vision where their culture spreads. We should call it "Eyes of the Converted" Btw, I'm pretty sure that planet flipping is in the game. I won my last game vs AI without launching a single attack against their home planet. :D
Thanks.By reviewing (Studying the differences) the statistics of the game I played against the PC I found tips very similar to what you are Suggesting Cabezone.
I'm not sure if you're aware of this, but replays of every game are automatically saved. You can review them to see exactly what everyone was doing at any point in time, including their opening build orders.

If I had max resources, instant upgrades, and "an insane cap on my planet structures" I'd have Novaliths raining down death within 10 minutes. There's no way I could possibly go 10 hours with that. That's an extraordinarily long power trip.
