Yeah, I don't recommend the shift-selection, especially with large groups. It's very literal - if you select half the ships, then hold shift and drag a box over all of the ships, it will deselect the first half and select only the second half. Which can be good, I suppose, but it can be quite a pain when trying to create a fleet properly. Combine that with the clumsy separation of fleets and "groups," and I've given up on trying to have meaningful fleet logistics. Of course, tabbing

You can select the fleet leader. Select the fleet, then hit TAB to cycle through the ships within the fleet (the selection circle will be slightly brighter for the current "lead" ship), or SHIFT-TAB to cycle backwards. Then click the create fleet button again to set the leader to the currently selected ship. You could also accomplish this by clicking on the specific ship you want, then shift-selecting the rest of the ships - I believe this leaves the original one as the current focus within t
