I think a story mode would help better our understanding of the game. I am starting to get bored of it, I wish online play was not so fragmented.
build a fleet of 100 bombers, they will die.
which map?
Can we get this post pinned? Any forum mods out there?
I think you have too little ram for the bigger maps. This game is a ram hog! My second guess along the same lines is that your paging file is very fragmented. Paging files should be about 1.5 times the size of your ram, so 1.5 gig. Set it to stay the same size, no change dynamically. Tips to clean your paging file: 1) Set the size to something very small - like 50 meg 2) Reboot and defragment your hard disk 3) Increase the size of your paging f
To recap - you are having an issue with the screen image being stretched? What video card are you using, what version of directx, have you run the directx diagnostics - winkey + r then type dxdiag - run all the graphics options. How old are your video drivers - right click on the my computer icon - go to properties,, then navigate to device manager, find your card and go to the drivers tab - check the date. What type of monitor are you playing on? What resolution is i
Upload the map so we can have a look.
Thanks! Great post by the way, nice idea's... The Sova seems a little dirty haha!
How do you destroy your own buildings?
The best balancing mechanism would likely be to increase the time between returning armada's.Best balancing thing would be to leave it alone. I recently slaughtered someone and they claimed, in replay to allies, that it was because I was using bombers. I guess it had nothing to do with the fact they kept building lvl 1 capital ships nonstop, which die to bombers in 2 passes (Since I had about 50 bomber squadrons).
Sounds like they knew what they were doing lol.<br/
The best balancing mechanism would likely be to increase the time between returning armada's. However, can we let the game playout for a month before we change our minds 50 times about which race has an unfair advantage.... last week it was the TEC and their LRM's.
Good job. I like these sort of experiments. Next mission: How many LRM's can a single lvl 1 capital ship take out???
I did notice that you did not designate Squadrons for the LRM's. The LRM's seemed awful confused... spinning round and round - good thing their missles can turn in a semi-circle!
Apple also has strategic zoom. Sit at any Mac - hold the control button down and spin the scroll wheel, it will zoom to the pointer.
The best tip someone told me - watch the video of the game you played. But instead of watching yourself - watch the AI. General rules for the first 1/2 hour: Build Capital Ship build 2 explorers - map the galaxy build 4 light frigates Build Refineries - crystal/metal Build civic research x2 Build military research x2 Upgrade planet Build planetary defenses - 2 hangers/ 4 cannons / 2 repair facilities Expand to neighboring systems - generate more
I found this too. The login is different for playing the game than the forums. You have to create a new account for the game. Get your key-code out.
Is this a memory leak problem? Why does the memory usage continue to grow so rapidly - roughly 1gig of memory per hour? 32bit versions of windows can only handle 3.6gig of ram, regardless of how much is installed.
I am using a Nvdia BFG branded 7600gt card without a problem. Not using the latest drivers, i figure if it isn't broke, dont fix it. Driver version 6.14.10.9424. Dated april 2007. I am using XP media center edition. Also - Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4ghz
64 bit Windows vista ultimate.... I found it - thats your problem! I am surprised it boots for long enough to launch the game. I am being serious. Read the forums at maximumpc.com if you do not beleive me. 64 bit vista is broken.
Any other tips?

Great Replies, Keep them coming.
I'm not sure if you're aware of this, but replays of every game are automatically saved. You can review them to see exactly what everyone was doing at any point in time, including their opening build orders.
I did not know the replays were that detailed, Great tip!
