Starbase with the bombardment upgrade in the gravity well negates this almost entirely.
Yeah, the AI seems out of whack pretty badly.
Steam in and of itself never requires a permanent internet connection. They have an offline mode that's pretty handy. I agree steam'll advertise the crap out of it whenever it goes on sale! As for the requiring steam for Multiplayer, Steamworks doesn't really involve multiplayer. The multiplayer system could be identical to the original Sins - all that would be gained (or lost?) is that you'd be able to shift-tab to have the steam overlay/chat on (to tal
Steamworks usually implies steam exclusive. Well, more, you can usually buy the game anywhere but it requires steam to run as it makes your saves available anywhere. You'll likely need steam to run the game though - nothing bad about that.

I perhaps should have just asked how to create a double install then without an explanation, but I'm not paying the ten dollars for Entrenchment unless I can have it both ways; playing online with people who win about minor balance issues doesn't appeal. @Kyro, we don't play regularly. We play for a few days once a year or so in the summer, before they get bored and it's over. I can reinstall each time, which is what I've been doing to date, but I have enough room

Heya all, Since my friends are not as much fans of the game as I am, I am in the position where they play illegal versions and I have bought the game. Since I deeply enjoy the patches and would love to buy Entrenchment and give it a whirl while not limiting my ability to play with my friends I was wondering if anyone had an idea how to create a double install of Sins, one that I could run 1.05 as and the other as an Entrenchment copy? Any ideas? Thanks

Of course, that would pretty much be the end of piracy on those games too. Pity.[/quote] If they were a

You can't get anything on steam illegally that needs steam to run. You need an acount. haha. suckers. Buy the game, it isn't that expensive for what you get and the work that went into making it. This is why Impulse is a good idea, but you can actually run sins with out it. Which I think isn't a g
Why might I end up Pirating Entrenchment despite having a legal copy of Sins? It's pretty simple. I want to play with my friends. I don't want to go online, I just want to game with people I know, at their house or mine. Most of them aren't interested enough in the Genre to pay for Sins, (One is into FPS's the other RPG's) so in general while I buy RTS's, they buy only those games they really want to own. Thus, in order to get them to play Sins, it has to be free to them. If t

Not a read-me; put that near the top of the initial post. He has dozens of weblinks and a ton of text there, if someone wants to just (as I did) grab the mods because they saw it in PCGamer and then test it out, that sort of list is far easier to get through than a lengthy post with dozens of links and colours :p no matter how on topic it is. Thank you Darkstar! Appreciated.
Any chance you could just create a section of the post dedicated to installs/links? IE: "Install steps: Install "MOD #1" (Make it a url/DL link) Install "MOD #2" etc and so on. I went to the site but there are 4-5 mods for download, including patches. Are those incremental, or just need the latest one?
No offense, but the tutorials don't cover fleet logistic research at all. I was playing two friends and I had found it myself - but they had gone through the tutorials. They knew fancy crap like the "Move as group" Command but I knew fleet logistical increases - it's a very valid question given the lack (and yet nice shortness) of the tutorials.
Singleplayer wise a balance is good. Getting Hanger D is pretty much essential - Depending on how many AI and planets there are, aim for the 'average' number and then fortify. The AI gets worse the longer time goes on. I tend to be a bit more of a Civilian techie man myself, but after getting a few 'key' techs (For example, the "Invasive Economy" tech as TEC - swap to military and ignore all the 'useless' techs in the Civi tree.
I'd suggest finding a friend and having a 'newb game' - that's what me and my friend did when we first picked the game up. Basically, neither of you know what or how to do anything and it becomes a race to learn new stuff. It actually is quite entertaining, and more motivation to learn than some boring tutorial - For example, I found out how to research long before him, but he found out increased fleet size well before I did. I took the win in the end because I had more planets and he couldn't f
